The San Antonio Spurs try to extend one streak and end another Tuesday, continuing their road trip against the Portland Trail Blazers, who have won the last six meetings between the clubs at the Rose Garden.
After defeating the Utah Jazz, 106-102, without two key players Monday in Salt Lake City, San Antonio extended the longest active winning streak in the NBA to 11 games.
San Antonio (23-9) rolled right along as Tim Duncan, Tony Parker and Matt Bonner combined for 63 points, each scoring over 20. For Parker, it was his third straight game with at least 20 points and 10 assists.
“We’re the new big three,” Duncan joked about Bonner’s performance.
The Trail Blazers (17-16) hope history dictates the future after getting crushed by the L.A. Lakers, 103-92 on Monday – scoring a franchise-low seven points in the first quarter.
Although they dropped a 99-83 road decision to the Spurs on January 13, the Blazers are the only team to win the season series against them each of the past three years.
San Antonio has averaged 107.3 points over its last three games, but only 90.3 during its six-game skid in Portland.
The Blazers, however, have lost four of five at home after an 11-1 start at the Rose Garden.
Portland will need the stability of Nicolas Batum (21.8 ppg, 51.2 percent shooting over his last five) and LaMarcus Aldridge (22.3 ppg, 50 percent) to spread throughout the team to cool off red-hot San Antonio.
