Wednesday’s best NBA game has the first-place Philadelphia 76ers figuring out a way to defend Dwight Howard as they visit the Orlando Magic. Howard seems due for a big game, having managed 11 points and 14 rebounds at Milwaukee on Saturday and 11 points and seven rebounds as he was limited by fouls vs. Minnesota on Monday. Despite the drop in production from Howard, the Magic (18-11) won both games. His presence in the post allowed Orlando to make 27-of-67 3-pointers in

Clippers assistant coach Howard Eisley fined $15K
NEW YORK – Howard Eisley made millions and millions of dollars playing in the NBA, first as the backup to John Stockton in Utah and then as one of the many forgettable floor generals for the New York Knicks over the past decade. He is still in the league, now working as an assistant coach for the Los Angeles Clippers. And he is going to have to dip into his bank account (or, more likely, receive a paycheck with a large involuntary
Bernucca: Stern & NBA have made a mess of Hornets
When it comes to running franchises, David Stern is doing a great impersonation of Ted Stepien. Stepien owned the Cleveland Cavaliers in the early 1980s and spent most of his time firing coaches, overpaying mediocre players and trading away so many draft picks that the NBA instituted the “Ted Stepien Rule,” which now prevents teams from trading first-round picks in consecutive years. Stepien’s mismanagement of the Cavaliers had to be fixed by the NBA. But the NBA – led by Stern –
Heisler’s Wednesday Power Rankings
It seems like only yesterday when we were wondering if there would be a season. Now it’s almost half over. Doesn’t time fly? Actually, it can’t fly fast enough. If the truth be known, NBA seasons are largely rehearsals for the real deal in spring. With this one starting so abruptly and so late and proceeding so sloppily, we’re not talking about one of the more memorable regular seasons, assuming there is such a thing. OK, there is, if it’s one with Wilt Chamberlain scoring
Reader comments on Jeremy Lin – UPDATED
Jeremy Lin did it again, hitting the game-winning 3-pointer in Toronto. Lin now has at least 20 points and seven assists in six straight games, the longest streak in the NBA this season. So what do you think? The comments section is your forum, folks. Type away. UPDATE: I had my say this morning on the Jorge Sedano Show on 790 The Ticket in Miami, making the point that a future lineup of Lin/Baron Davis at PG, Iman Shumpert/Landry Fields at SG, Carmelo Anthony at
Fantasy Spin: Wednesday Feb. 15
Tuesday’s Lin-tangibles I loved seeing the latest episode of the Jeremy Lin show in person. The phenom was outplayed by red-hot Jose Calderon (25 PTS, 7 REB, 9 AST) until Mike D’Antoni made a defensive switch. In the fourth quarter, with Iman Shumpert on Calderon, Lin took over, as you already know. His fantasy value (like his real value to the Knicks and the NBA) rocketed off the charts the last two weeks. The deeper the league, the more he’s an outlier.
The legend of Linsanity grows with game winning shot; Heat win three road games in three nights
Once upon a time, Air Canada Center was all about Vinsanity, which captured the hearts of the Toronto fans until he broke those hearts by leaving. On this Va-Lin-Tine’s Day, the season-high sellout crowd of 20,092 Canadians experienced another type of insanity. Linsanity. Doubt was in the air. Turnovers were aplenty. Once again, a defense seemed to have figured out how to contain him — force him left and back off him at the 3-point line. The world
