Notes from around the NBA
Steve Nash, at 38, is about to play in his seventh career All-Star Game. 2012’s oldest NBA All-Star — he joins Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Michael Jordan and Karl Malone as the only All-Stars 38 years or older — is leading the league in assists (10.3 apg) and is third overall in field goal percentage (.563). Nash is on pace to lead the league in assists for the sixth time. Only Hall of Famer John Stockton has accomplished that feat, having led the NBA in that category nine times.
Monday’s best game: LA Clippers at Dallas
For a six-game board, there are some pretty good games on League Pass on Monday night. The Miami Heat go to Milwaukee to try to solve the Bucks, who have beaten them twice this season. The top two rebounders square off with Dwight Howard and the Orlando Magic host Kevin Love and the Minnesota Timberwolves. And there is the car-crash quality of the Philadelphia 76ers visiting the Charlotte Bobcats, who have lost 14 straight games. But the best game should be Blake
Lin and Westbrook named NBA Players of the Week
NEW YORK — Linsanity has been rewarded by the folks working in commissioner David Stern’s office. Jeremy Lin of the New York Knicks and Russell Westbrook of the Oklahoma City Thunder’s today were named the Eastern and Western Conference Players of the Week for games played Monday, Feb. 6, through Sunday, Feb. 12. Lin led the Knicks to a 4-0 week, averaging 27.3 points, 8.3 assists and 2.0 steals. His 109 points over his first four career starts are the most by
Should the Lakers re-sign high-flying Gerald Green?
Remember Gerald Green? Yeah, you remember. After a side sojourn to China, the 2005 first-round pick of the Boston Celtics is now toiling in the D-League, where he is trying to resuscitate his career by proving he can do more than dunk. And he’s getting there. Green was named D-League Performer of the Week on Monday after leading the Los Angeles D-Fenders to a 4-0 week with a pair of 30-point games. He averaged 27.3 points and 6.5 rebounds, shooting 54 percent from
Road trips from Hell; Linsanity’s next stop; The week ahead
Did the Lakers catch a break during their six-game road trip? Is Derrick Rose’s back a serious problem with their nine-game trip finally over? And what of the Clippers’ and Spurs’ long jaunts? CineSport’s Brian Clark & SheridanHoops.com Editor-in-Chief Chris Sheridan discuss those issues, the next installment of Linsanity and the wherabouts of one Latavious Williams. //
Williams, Park join SheridanHoops.com
This is my web site, but it isn’t about me. It is about basketball, from the preps to the pros to the international game to the fantasy world, and we are continuing to grow. Today, I want to introduce two new contributors to the site, joining a staff that already includes Hall of Famer Mark Heisler, wordsmith Jan Hubbard, machine/animal Chris Bernucca and many, many others. The first addition is Kent Williams, who will be writing daily fantasy updates for those of
Fantasy Spin: Monday Feb. 13
It’s my pleasure to be joining Team Sheridan with a daily look at fantasy hoops. The proud owner of Jeremy Lin and Nikola Pekovic in a competitive 20-team league, my specialty is picking up free agents before they get good. Statistics are useful, of course, but they are available to everyone. Other tidbits of information (injuries and rotation shuffles) can be even more valuable in making your roster decisions. The advice dispensed here is rarely going to concern superstars, or consistent
