It is very rare to see the Miami Heat lose. It is even more rare to hear Rich DeVos speak. Both happened last night in Orlando, where the Dwight Howard trade situation again took center stage in what has been a circus of a season for the Magic. In a nutshell, DeVos doesn’t want to trade Howard, and the Orlando owner revealed that he has told Howard the grass is not always greener on the other side — although he did not rule

Will Ferrell rewrites the pregame introductions
I’m in the minority on Will Ferrell. I don’t think he’s nearly as funny as everyone makes him out to be. I believe that with some exceptions, many of the more recent “Saturday Night Live” alumni have made an extraordinary practice of taking one skit or character that is worth 6-10 minutes worth of minor laughter and bleeding it dry by expanding it to a movie that repeatedly tells the same joke for 90 minutes. However, Ferrell did do the movie
Weijia: One on one with Jeremy Lin
Jeremy Lin put on another show Wednesday night, logging his third consecutive 20-plus point game as the New York Knicks defeated the Washington Wizards 107-93. In Beijing, a certain SheridanHoops.com columnist was back at work following an extended break for Chinese New Year, wondering whether his e-mail pal could pull off another one of the types of performances that had fans at Madison Square Garden chanting “M-V-P” two nights ago. Lin certainly did, with 23 points, 10 assists and four rebounds. Lin had
Magic owner Rich DeVos on Dwight Howard: “I don’t want to trade him”
I have been saying this over and over again when asked on radio shows and in video appearances what I expect to happen with Dwight Howard and the Orlando Magic. Time and again, I have come back to one key point: The fate of Howard, for this season anyway, rests in the hands of 85-year-old owner Magic owner Rich DeVos. I am not 85, but I would imagine that when you are 85, you know the clock is ticking. You are not interested
Tonight’s best game: San Antonio at Philadelphia
Points will be at a premium in Wednesday’s best NBA game when the Philadelphia 76ers host the San Antonio Spurs, who are in the midst of club record-tying nine-game road trip. Philadelphia’s top-ranked defense is allowing just 86.6 points a game. The 76ers have won six of their past seven games, beating contenders Orlando, Chicago, Atlanta and most recently, the Los Angeles Lakers. The Sixers (18-7) are even better at holding onto the ball. With four turnovers against LA and only 42
Griffin, Rubio picked for Rising Stars Challenge
Wanna see Ricky Rubio throw lobs to Blake Griffin? How about John Wall and DeMarcus Cousins teaming up again, as they did at Kentucky? It could happen in the BBVA Rising Stars Challenge, which revealed its player pool Wednesday. As we reported Tuesday, the Rookie-Sophomore Challenge is no more. NBA assistant coaches picked the pool of nine rookies and nine sophomores listed below, but TNT analysts Charles Barkley and Shaquille O’Neal will serve as GMs and draft teams Feb. 16 on the
All-Star Weekend in 2013 goes to Houston
Next year’s All-Star Weekend will be in Houston. The NBA announced Wednesday that the Rockets and the city of Houston will host the 62nd All-Star Game on Feb. 17, 2013. It marks the third time Houston has hosted the game. It first hosted in 1989 and again in 2006. Beginning with 2006, the NBA has made a commitment to placing All-Star Weekend in supposed warm-weather sites such as Phoenix, Dallas, Los Angeles, etc. However, All-Star Weekend 2006 in Houston was marked by consistently overcast
Sheridan: Kevin Love for MVP? It’s a valid argument
Over to your right is a poll we are running, asking our readers to vote for who they believe is the most worthy MVP candidate at this point of the season. I have already cast my vote, choosing “other.” Forgive me for not genuflecting to the superstars on that list: LeBron James, Derrick Rose, Kobe Bryant and Kevin Durant. They are all worthy candidates — there is no arguing that. But none of them has turned around his team the way Kevin Love
