It is entirely possible that a decision announced this past week at a small boarding school in New Hampshire will have a profound impact on the 2013 NBA Draft. Nerlens Noel, a 6-foot-10 shot-blocker who has been compared to Bill Russell and Anthony Davis, announced that he would reclassify to the high school Class of 2012 from the Class of 2013. “I’m ready to do it,” Noel, out of The Tilton (N.H.) School, told Dave Telep of ESPN.com in reference to reclassyifying.

Hawks lose Jason Collins for two weeks
The Atlanta Hawks are running out of centers. Already without Al Horford – perhaps for the rest of the season – the Hawks announced Saturday morning that veteran center Jason Collins will miss at least two weeks with a sprained left elbow. Collins suffered the injury in Thursday’s loss to Memphis, which dropped Atlanta to 9-3 since Horford went down with a torn pectoral muscle. Horford is not expected back until mid-April. Collins was averaging 1.0 points and 1.6 rebounds in 13.0 minutes.
Gibson: Euroleague update: For Cantu, Doron Perkins Is a Risk Worth Taking
BARCELONA — This Thursday in Israel could mark Doron Perkins’ first Euroleague game in over 10 months. As far as Perkins is concerned, it couldn’t come in a better place; Tel Aviv’s Nokia Arena has been home to many of Perkins’ finest moments with Maccabi. Only this Thursday, he might be sliding into his socks in the visitor’s locker room as a member of Bennet Cantu, a team that bested Maccabi 82-74 Thursday. Let’s rewind a bit. Last March in a playoff series
Kenyon Martin signs with Clippers
LOS ANGELES — The Clippers just got even better. Unexpectedly given early freedom after an abbreviated stint in the Chinese Basketball Association, Kenyon Martin signed Friday night with the Pacific-Division-leading Los Angeles Clippers. “Kenyon is the ultimate competitor and a key acquisition,” stated Vice President of Basketball Operations Neil Olshey. “We expect that he will provide additional experience, passion and professionalism, as well as some important depth to our front court.” Martin, 34, has played in 654 career NBA games with the New
D’moralized Knicks lose again; Heat, Pacers win big
My first job out of college was as a baseball dictationist at the AP. Being a know-it-all twentysomething, I would invariably do something stupid about once a week. And when I did, an old salt of a newsman named Dick Joyce – who called everyone “Mersh” – would turn to me and say, “Uh, Mersh, where you workin’ next week?” It might be time to ask Mike D’Antoni the same question. The embattled coach of the New York Knicks watched his team lose
LeBron and Kobe named Players of the Month
NEW YORK — LeBron James and Kobe Bryant were named the NBA Eastern and Western Conference Players of the Month, respectively, for games played in December and January. James led Miami to a 16-5 (.762) record for games played in December and January, matching the best start to a season in franchise history, behind averages of 29.2 points, 8.3 rebounds and 7.1 assists. A three-time Eastern Conference player of the week so far this season, James ranks second in the NBA
How to spend $100,000 that doesn’t belong to you
That right there is a $100,000 bill. These notes were printed from December 18, 1934 through January 9, 1935 and were issued by the Treasurer of the United States to Federal Reserve Banks only against an equal amount of gold bullion held by the Treasury Department. The notes were used only for official transactions between Federal Reserve Banks and were not circulated among the general public. The president in the center is Woodrow Wilson. Tonight’s best game: New York at Boston
Well, it’s finally here: Super Bowl weekend. For almost everyone in New York, it’s exciting. For Knicks coach Mike D’Antoni, it’s frightening. The Knicks are in a horrendous 2-10 slide and will be feeling the pressure when they head to Boston to play the Celtics in Friday’s best NBA game. This is a make-or-break weekend for the head coach. The Daily, a gossip Web site, has reported that D’Antoni will be fired if the Knicks lose the first two games of their
