I’ve had the privilege to witness Jones’ development since his freshman year at Mount Vernon High School in Westchester County, NY. He’s gone from a frail and athletic shooter to one of top forwards in the country. Jones was recently snubbed by not being awarded Big East Player of the Year, but his future in the NBA may be one of the brightest of any forward prospect based on his skill set. I don’t overstate things. Jones is the best offensive

The Bernucca List – Edition 15
Edition 14 of The Bernucca List was first answered correctly by Doug, whose response was “active players who have led the league in personal fouls.” This week’s list can be found below. The idea is to figure out the common denominators among each player on the list. First correct answer gets a pop in next week’s list. As always, submit your answers via the comments or send me a Tweet. The Bernucca List Carlos Boozer Marc Gasol Manu Ginobili Rashard Lewis Mehmet Okur Michael Redd Mo Williams
Sheridan likes Kaman to Pacers, Crawford to Grizzlies or Wolves; Hinrich to Lakers
// Almost all of the trade deadline attention is focused on Orlando, where the Magic have to figure out what they are going to do with Dwight Howard. D-12 is the top domino, and there could be a lot of residual movement if he is traded before next Thursday’s deadline. But there are also other trades being discussed that have absolutely nothing to do with the Magic; trades that would take second-echelon teams to the next level. Chris Sheridan, editor-in-chief of SheridanHoops.com, sees
Heisler: D12, DWill Are Going … Nowhere
Counting down to… zip? If some players may go every which way by the trade deadline, they’re not likely to include any Dwight Howards, Deron Williams or even Pau Gasols. All three are, indeed, in play, but their destinations are a lot likelier to be revealed in June, no matter how much pure unadulterated BS you hear between now and March 15. Hey, it’s better than waiting to see if Ric Bucher thinks the Lakers should trade Kobe Bryant, the Bulls should trade
Lakers, Clippers experiencing bad trips; Rose beats the buzzer
There’s some sort of event called the Pac-12 Conference tournament being held in the Staples Center in Los Angeles. I think it has to do with college basketball. Anyway, it has forced the facility’s regular tenants – the Lakers and Clippers – to hit the road for a stretch. And things are not going well for either team. The Lakers were dispatched on a brief three-game sojourn and already have lost the first two, dropping to an abysmal 6-14 on the road.
Fantasy Spin: Thursday March 8
Ouch. The Celtics were crushed 33-17 in the opening quarter and never made a run. In just his second game as a starter, Evan Turner poured in 26 points and grabbed 9 boards to lead the Sixers. This is not good news for Jodie Meeks owners, but it makes Turner a very hot pickup, especially in keeper leagues. Thaddeus Young (illness) didn’t play, so Nikola Vucevic (14 & 12) got a little extra burn. In Other Action UTA @ CHA: Corey Maggette
Scouting Take: Zack Rosen
With the recent success of Jeremy Lin at point guard position in New York, NBA owners have pressed their scouts to search the Ivy League for the next edition of Linsanity. Rumor has it there’s a pretty good guard in the Ivy League. His name is Zack Rosen. There’s no reason to believe that Rosen can redefine a franchise, but the kid is a quarterback. Heck, Jay Fiedler called the shots for the Miami Dolphins. The idea is to manage expectations, but I
Game of the night: Boston at Philadelphia
The Philadelphia 76ers have had the Atlantic Division lead for much of the season and looked ready to run away with it by taking advantage of an easy early schedule. Since then, they have taken a tumble, and the Boston Celtics may be ready to reclaim the throne as the best team in the division, which has been the case since the arrival of Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett in the 2007-2008 season. The streaking Celtics (20-17) visit the reeling 76ers (22-17)
