Tweet of the Night goes to JaVale McGee, who had an emotional night with his mother after signing a big contract with the Denver Nuggets. Marc J. Spears has the details: “The Denver Nuggets have re-signed free-agent center JaVale McGee. The four-year contract is worth $44 million, a league source told Yahoo! Sports. McGee averaged 11.3 points, 7.8 rebounds and 2.1 blocks in 61 games with the Nuggets and Washington Wizards last season. After failing to live up to his potential in Washington, McGee had two impressive double-double games for the Nuggets against the Los Angeles Lakers in the playoffs.”
McGee, who is known more for his regular appearances on Shaqtin’ a Fool than his play on the basketball court, proved to be a valuable commodity in the postseason against the Lakers as he went toe-to-toe against Andrew Bynum and averaged 8.6 points, 9.6 rebounds and 3.1 blocks in 26 minutes.
The big contract most assuredly makes him a big part of the Nuggets future moving forward. He is slated to workout with Hakeem Olajuwon, who has helped develop the post game of a number of notable NBA players. McGee has built a reputation as a tantalizing talent with maturity issues over the years with the young core of the Washington Wizards, but could maximize his potential under the tutelage of coach George Karl with the Nuggets. That said, did he ask his mother if he could take a picture of her crying?
