It finally happened. Reggie Miller was officially inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame on Friday night, and he gave one hell of a speech along the way after receiving a solid slap in the butt from his sister Cheryl Miller. Here is that speech:
To be completely honest, I was never a fan of Miller in any capacity. Growing up as a Bulls fan and an admittedly fair-weather Knicks fan, there were obviously reasons to dislike the weasel of a guard that would repeatedly hit dagger shots and get in your face about it afterwards.
There is something to be said about getting to understand a player better, though, and hearing him open up the way he did during his speech about the fans, players, coaches and family certainly helps you put things in a different perspective about a man that was truly passionate about what he did. His sentiments towards his inspirational sister Cheryl Miller was particularly heartwarming.
Antics and a flamboyant personality on the court aside, Miller was a unique talent and a strong character that never backed away from anything despite his skinny frame. For his accomplishments, he enters the exclusive Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame as a part of the class of 2012. Well deserved, indeed.
