“We’re doing good. We’re making positive steps going forward,” Perkins said of the organization’s off-season. “We got coach (Scott) Brooks locked in. We got Serge (Ibaka) locked in. And we’re getting close with James, and we’re getting close to keeping our unit together. And we’re still hungry.”
Then came this not-so-bombshell of a report (tweet) from Chris Broussard of ESPN:
“Despite what KPerk says OKC & JHarden not close to deal. Sides are talking. JH wants to stay but wants max. Let’s see if OKC blinks b4 10/31”
It’s obvious that Harden wants to stay with the team – the bond he shares with his teammates is very real. You can’t always have it both ways in this league, though, and if he wants the max extension – something he probably deserves – as Broussard reported, he just may have to get it elsewhere. Like Presti said, the team has “inherent challenges due to the new CBA”. “Lord knows” Harden has a tough decision to make very soon.
