$1,000 Sheridan Hoops Fantasy Contest
Daily fantasy leagues are great. If you’re an NFL fan, there are plenty of free leagues at FanDuel that you can enter right now, and modify your lineup until 1:00 Sunday. Click on the logo and check them out. You don’t need a credit card and there’s no deposit required.
If you like the concept — I find it challenging and fun, like the draft day “buzz” in traditional leagues, every day — you can start with as little as $10, and play in leagues with $1 or $2 entry fees. There are $5 or $10 leagues and others for “high rollers” if you’re so inclined.
For a buck, take your best shot in the $2500 Sun NFL Dive #3, where the top 250 finishers earn a cash prize of $3 or more. First place is worth $350! Or, if you don’t like a huge pool with 2,790 entries, try a 10-player league. Beat just nine opponents, win $4.50 — finish third and you almost double your money. There’s even head-to-head play, just you and one other fan. One day only, best team wins.
Another very interesting concept is called a 50-50 league. All you need to do is finish in the top half to (nearly) double your money. The winner doesn’t get a proportionately larger share. For example, there are NFL 50/50 leagues with a $5 entry fee and 50 teams. Finish anywhere in the top half — first or 25th — and win $9. The more you investigate the options, the sooner you’ll find the level and type of league that’s best for you.
Of course, this is a basketball site, and we can’t wait for October 30, when FanDuel NBA leagues begin. The $500 Tue NBA Dribbler for that night is already full; I’ve staked 1% of my Week 1 $100 bankroll in that one. It’s on Hallowe’en that the real fun begins, and we have a tasty treat for you. Join a special one-day fantasy tournament for Sheridan Hoops readers at FanDuel. There’s a $2 entry fee, for a share in the $1,000 cash prizes. First place wins $200, second $125, third $100 and even 61st place doubles your investment.Pick nine players within a $60,000 salary cap and the team that compiles the most fantasy points — on October 31st only — wins.
Back on October 9 when we announced this event, I explained the rules and shared a first draft of my lineup, which has already changed and will change again before the 7:00 Eastern deadline on contest night.
In certain FanDuel leagues, multiple entries are permitted, and you can have up to five teams in our tournament. I’ve entered only the one, so far. There are only 555 spots, and it’s not fair to deprive a reader of a chance to play, just to increase my chances of winning. However, if there is room near the deadline, I’ll enter again. One thing about multiple entries is, they can both win a prize. Sometimes you just aren’t sure of that ninth roster spot. So you submit two or three teams with different options there. If your other eight players have a good night, all your teams can finish in the money.
Thanks very much to our Twitter friends for pushing us over the 1,000 followers mark. The Sheridan Hoops fantasy team — @SheridanFantasy — will be there all season. It’s a shared account; Jeff Nichols is answering a lot of your pre-draft questions there and we will be retweeting late lineup changes when the real games begin.
