$1,000 Sheridan Hoops Fantasy Contest
OK, the countdown begins in earnest. It’s nine days to Hallowe’en, and a treat for our readers. Our partner site FanDuel is hosting a one-day contest just for you. There’s a $2 entry fee and $1,000 in cash prizes. Bragging rights are worth something too — try to beat your friends, or those of us from Sheridan Hoops who will be taking part, including the entire fantasy department.
I covered the tournament details here yesterday in more depth, but it’s easy to sign up, fun to pick a team (9 players within a $60,000 salary cap) and a great challenge to win. One-day leagues are the wave of the future. I’m not abandoning traditional season-long formats, of course. This is a whole new hobby.
Just click the logo to join, and we’ll see you there. You can enter multiple times (up to five) to increase your chances of winning and you can edit your lineup(s) right up until 7:00 pm Eastern on October 31. The way Dwight Howard played yesterday, I might have to re-think mine, where bargain-priced Festus Ezeli is currently plugged in at C.
There are many other great formats at FanDuel. Large leagues, (like our contest, with 500+ teams) are offered every day. So are 2-team leagues — just you and one opponent — and many sizes in between. The payoffs (in cash, through PayPal) are smaller, but more frequent, 3-team or 5-team leagues. In our tournament, first place wins $200, second $125, third $100 and there are 58 other prizes.
They even run 50-50 leagues, where all you have to do is finish in the top half to win. In a 20-team 50-50 league, first through tenth pays out the same amount. If you’re simply better than average that night, you win.
I’ll be talking about daily leagues (and the weekly versions) in this space every day. Part of my $100 bankroll for Week 1 has already been used to enter three leagues on October 30, and two others beside the Sheridan Hoops event on the 31st. Check FanDuel out yourself — there’s no cost to join and there are free leagues to get used to the game — and I’m sure you’ll enjoy it as much as I do.
