$1,000 Sheridan Hoops Fantasy Contest
Our partner site FanDuel is hosting a one-day contest just for you. There’s a $2 entry fee and $1,000 in cash prizes. Bragging rights are worth something too — try to beat your friends, or those of us from Sheridan Hoops who will be taking part, including the entire fantasy department.
We covered the tournament details here in more depth, but it’s easy to sign up, fun to pick a team (9 players within a $60,000 salary cap) and a great challenge to win. Just click the logo to join, and we’ll see you there. You can enter multiple times (up to five) to increase your chances of winning and you can edit your lineup(s) right up until 7:00 pm Eastern on October 31.
This will be my first attempt at a daily fantasy league. I am not sure where the best odds for success lie. Are you better off loading up on players for the team with the best match-up? For example, I really like Detroit at home against Houston and added Rodney Stuckey and Greg Monroe to my team but Brandon Knight and Jonas Jerebko could be interesting plays, too. Or, do you need to diversify?
Another potential tactic is to target surprise starters. With Dirk Nowitzki out, does Elton Brand become a must start? Same with Carl Landry now that Andrew Bogut is likely to be on the shelf as well. I actually found that the salary cap is fairly generous and that you don’t have to reach too deep to fill your roster. In fact, my challenge with the first iteration of my team was actually spending all of the available dollars. Bargain hunting, while helpful, doesn’t seem necessary or even that important.
I’d love to hear any strategic tidbits you may have for daily leagues either in the comments section below or on Twitter. The best part of playing in a daily league is that if your strategy didn’t work, you always try something new the next day.

Got a bit of a situation in my weekly h2h league. I astutely drafted Rubio to stash for future use. This was going well until some idiot decided to drop John Wall today (in favor of picking up Ray Allen, lol!). So i’m posed with this decision: do i drop my injury backup guard JR Smith to pick up Wall? That would leave me with Rubio AND Wall as 2 of my 3 bench spots, with Asik my 3rd option (he’s my injury backup F). If one of my starting Gs got hurt, I’d need to drop Asik to get a healthy G, and just hope that one of my Fs doesn’t also get hurt!
What to do, sir?!
ps: i’ll likely not get Wall, as I’m 9th of 12 teams in the waiver order, but i imagine it’s worth a go, eh?

I’d be tempted to drop Rubio for Wall. Wall’s recovery is shorter and more certain than Rubio’s. He is also not likely to see his play suffer as a result of his injury. It usually takes 2 years to fully recover from a torn ACL.
It is very difficult to carry two injuries in H2H especially at the same position. If you are hell bent on keeping Rubio then drop Asik. His skill set is a lot easier to replace than Smith’s.
