15. AUSTIN DAYE, DETROIT: A true disappointment after coming in with a lot of hype out of Gonzaga. On the day of the extension deadline, Daye got a DNP-CD instead. A candidate to not receive a qualifying offer next summer.
16. JAMES JOHNSON, SACRAMENTO: Another guy on his third team. A hard-nosed player but wasn’t overly impressive in Toronto. Now playing for a qualfying offer.
17. JRUE HOLIDAY, PHILADELPHIA: Things didn’t look good when the season opener tipped without a deal. But after directing a win, the point guard received a four-year, $41 million extension, which he appears capable of growing into.
18. TY LAWSON, DENVER: Established himself as a keeper last season and was rewarded with a four-year, $48 million extension from the Nuggets, who all of a sudden have a ton of long-term deals.
19. JEFF TEAGUE, ATLANTA: Hasn’t shown quite enough yet but promise is there. Hawks GM Danny Ferry wants to maintain his flexibility for the summer and will make qualifying offer.
20. ERIC MAYNOR, OKLAHOMA CITY: Virtually clinched a trip to restricted free agency with last season’s torn ACL. Has a chance to show something this season with Harden out of the way.
21. DARREN COLLISON, DALLAS: Also on his third team, which seems strange for a player this good. The Mavericks traded for him because his pending RFA status fit with their current plan of annual flexibility.
22. VICTOR CLAVER, PORTLAND: A rookie this season after three years in Spain. DNP in opener.
23. OMRI CASSPI, CLEVELAND: Once a novelty with some skill, now just another 11th man. Had a DNP in the opener and is playing for a qualifying offer.
24. BYRON MULLENS, CHARLOTTE: Also on his third team but has created a niche for himself and almost certainly worth a qualifying offer.
25. RODDY BEAUBOIS, DALLAS: If they ever do a remake of Unbreakable, he can audition for the role of Mr. Glass. If he can stay healthy this season, he will earn himself a qualifying offer. But he hasn’t shown he can start.
26. TAJ GIBSON, CHICAGO: Was in a tough negotiating spot because he doesn’t start but eventually settled for a well-deserved $38 million over four years. Since the 2005 CBA changed rookie contracts to two-year deals with two options, Gibson is the lowest first-round pick to get an extension.
27. DEMARRE CARROLL, UTAH: We like his game, but already on the one-year contract treadmill.
28. WAYNE ELLINGTON, MEMPHIS: A disappointment given his pedigree. Has a lot to prove in order to get a qualifying offer.
29. TONEY DOUGLAS, HOUSTON: Surprising rookie season has been followed by a free fall. It was somewhat of a shock that he wasn’t part of GM Daryl Morey’s “slash-and-burn” offseason.
30. CHRISTIAN EYENGA: Was a teammate of LeBron James and Kobe Bryant and was traded for Dwight Howard. So there.
