Memphis Grizzlies star small forward Rudy Gay shared his sentiments on the day that it was announced that Assistant General Manager Kenny “Eggman” Williamson lost his fight with cancer at the age of 65.
In the team’s official statement, General Manager Chris Wallace had this to say of Williamson:
Anyone who ever met ‘Eggman’ will never forget him. He had a huge personality and was extremely well respected, both professionally and personally. Kenny was as true and committed a friend as one will ever have. He deeply cared for his friends and the youth of Memphis and of every community he touched. He was the greatest people person I have ever known.
Williamson was in his sixth season with the Memphis Grizzlies as the Assistant General Manager. Prior to joining Memphis, he worked as a scout for the Charlotte Bobcats and the New York Knicks as well as having 21 years experience as an assistant coach in the college ranks.
There has been an outpouring of condolences both from current Grizzlies players and players and colleagues throughout the league.
People who have an impact on the lives of others, as Williamson had on those who knew him, are never forgotten and not easily replaced.
