As Johnson can tell you, the victory against the Spurs was particularly impressive because it was a collective team effort. Raymond Felton was exceptional as he drove to the paint at will to score 25 points to go with seven assists, while Jason Kidd made his presence felt on both ends of the floor with 14 points including four 3-pointers, two steals and three blocks. J.R. Smith played a controlled game on his way to 17 points as he continued to make a case for the Sixth Man award, and Tyson Chandler provided a steady inside presence with 13 points and 11 rebounds.
Ironically, the only player that struggled to get anything going was the team’s leading scorer in Carmelo Anthony, who managed to score just nine points on three-of-12 shooting while grabbing 12 rebounds.
Woodson is on the right path to win the Coach of the Year award, but there is still one issue the soft-spoken coach will have to address: the situation of Amare Stoudemire. With Anthony’s success at the power forward position, Woodson could face an interesting dilemma when Stoudemire will inevitably want to resume his role as the starting power forward of the team.
