This a short week in the sense that everyone gets to enjoy some turkey and stuffing without worrying about basketball on Thursday. The league makes up for it with a near full slate of games on Wednesday and Friday. Chicago, league-leading Memphis and Miami are all limited to two games and their players can be safely benched.
Atlanta has the softest schedule with 3 home games and 3 awful opponents ORL, WAS and @CHA before LAC on the second of a back-to-back for both teams. Charlotte gets a chance to build on their surprising 4-3 record with MIL, TOR and ATL at home before winless @WAS. Orlando also has it pretty easy, starting with @ATL before three at home games against DET, CLE and BOS. Notice a theme there? Each plays in the Southeast Division.
The Clippers have four toughies on the road starting @SAS and finishing @ATL with trips to @OKC and @BKN in between. It will be a great proving ground for them. Luckily they have the bench to earn a split. Their co-tenant at the Staples Center also has it pretty tough, with the last of a 5-game homestand against BKN followed by @SAC, @MEM and @DAL. Four games in five nights plus travel will be a test for new coach Mike D’Antoni, though he has said that players like Antawn Jamison and Jodie Meeks will get more run than under his predecessors. Lastly, the Knicks continue their west coast trip against @NOR, @DAL and @HOU before finally returning home for DET.
Some games of note include:
IND @ WAS on Monday. The Wizards will be looking to get their first win of the season against the equally dysfunctional Pacers. For Indiana it is a must-win for their coach and players because there will be loud calls for heads if they fail to win this one. The return of Nene could add to the intrigue.
NYK @ HOU on Friday. The last game of a 5-game road trip for the Knicks pits them against Jeremy Lin. Fortunately, Raymond Felton has made their decision look good but games like this will be a test for their many AARP members.
LAL @ DAL on Saturday. A big test for the Lakers as it will be the fourth game in five nights with the day off being Thanksgiving. Their lack of depth will be severely tested by the deeper and well rested Mavericks especially now that Shawn Marion will have a couple of games under his belt.
