“It’s the best thing for our team. Everybody has to make decisions about their schedule. We’ve done this before in hopes we’re making a wiser decision and not a macho decision. Perhaps it’ll give us an opportunity to stay on the floor with Memphis on Saturday night.
“We’ve done this before in hopes of making a wiser decision, rather than a popular decision. It’s pretty logical. I don’t think it was a tough decision at all. In fact, it was made when the schedule came out.
“It has nothing to do with the Miami Heat, or TV, or anything. You deal with the schedule as best you can and do the wisest thing for your particular team.”
The news that a primetime game on TNT would not feature the Spurs top six players (Stephen Jackson and Kawhi Leonard are sitting out with injuries) did not please Commissioner Stern, who made the following statement.
“I apologize to all NBA fans. This was an unacceptable decision by the San Antonio Spurs and substantial sanctions will be forthcoming.”
The curious thing is by what precedent does Stern fine San Antonio?
There is no rule that states that coach cannot rest players. This is not the first time that a team has done so.
It will be interesting to see where things go from here.
