- Only a couple days after saying Darren Collison is his starting point guard, Rick Carlisle is changing his tune, from Eddie Sefko of The Dallas Morning News: “When Collison had a good game Tuesday in Philadelphia coming off the bench, coach Rick Carlisle said he liked what he saw. “I loved the way he played in Philly,” said Carlisle, who announced the Fisher news after the Mavericks’ 101-78 blowout loss to Chicago on Wednesday night. “I think that’s a great role for him right now. I think Fisher can help us as a starter. This is a great opportunity for Darren to develop into a true starting point guard in this league. “I really like Darren Collison as a player, and I like him even better as a person. But putting him in a position to be the starter on this team right now isn’t fair to him. With Derek coming in, it’s a great opportunity for Darren to learn from one of the greatest winners in the history of the game.”
- Amare Stoudemire may be okay with coming off the bench when he returns from injury, according to Ian Begley of ESPN New York: “Amar’e Stoudemire would accept a role as the New York Knicks’ sixth man if asked, two sources with knowledge of Stoudemire’s thinking told ESPNNewYork.com. “All he cares about right now is helping the team and winning,” said one source, who has been around Stoudemire regularly in recent weeks. “He’d be fine with coming off the bench if that’s what they want.”… A source close to Stoudemire who has visited with the veteran power forward recently said Stoudemire wants to help the Knicks, who were 9-4 entering play Wednesday, and doesn’t want to affect any chemistry the team has established. “He just wants to win,” the source says. “He sees how well they’re playing and just wants to help. He’ll be fine with whatever they want to do.”

- Billy King provided an update for Lopez’s foot injury and chimed in on the play of Joe Johnson, from Moke Hamilton of SNYNets: “He will be re-evaluated after Sunday’s game and will be “day-to-day” thereafter. Lopez may be available to return as soon as the Dec. 4 Barclays Center matchup versus the Oklahoma City Thunder, but King stressed that there is no definitive timetable for Lopez’s return at this time. “We’re gonna wait until he’s close to pain free,” King said. As of now, Lopez is in pain and can’t run. “If he could run, he’d be playing.”… “Joe Johnson has shown flashes, but is yet to put together a consistent string of good shooting performances, still converting on just 39.5 percent of his looks on the season. “I think what Joe has done a great job of is attracting double teams and finding guys that are open,” King said. “I think right now, he and Deron aren’t shooting a great percentage… but they are getting guys easy shots.” He added: “Joe has been a complete basketball player for us with how he’s played.”
- Al Horford touched on a number of fun topics in this interview with Charles Bathea of Grantland: “You missed all but 11 games before entering last year’s playoff series against Boston. Was coming back then the right call, in retrospect? I don’t think it was the best time. I was out all year, and I hadn’t even practiced with the team when I decided to come back. I was in good shape, but it was two and a half months after the surgery. My doctors, they didn’t really recommend that. But it’s the playoffs, you see your team hurting, they really want you to be out there. What nickname would you give Jeff Teague from a book you’ve read? If we’re going on personality, I’d say something like Dr. Seuss. A kiddie book. He’s a kid still. Jeff is very … he’s like a year younger than me, but we always give him a hard time. We still consider him like he’s a rookie. What does Harden’s beard look like up close? [Laughs, shaking head.] I don’t know what he’s doing, man. I don’t approve of the beard. He seems like a cool guy and everything, but I just, I don’t know. It’s huge… Who are the better communicators? Kyle Korver, he’s out there talking on the floor, pointing guys to the right places. Josh, he’s not communicating, but he does a great job moving and being there for you.”
- Here are some updates about the Williams brothers in Utah, from USA Today: “Utah forward Jazz Marvin Williams suffered a possible concussion against the New Orleans Hornets on Wednesday, according to the team. He is undergoing tests this morning in Oklahoma City, where the Jazz play Friday, and is doubtful for that game. Guard Mo Williams, who has been out since Nov. 23 with a sprained foot, is scheduled to make his return against the Thunder.”
