David Lee has reason to be excited after his team’s latest 97-95 road victory over the Miami Heat – one of the toughest home teams in the league.
The Golden State Warriors are not known as a team that go on long winning streaks on the road. Last season, they were 11-22 away from home. If that sounds bad, wait until you hear this: they were a combined 26-97 on the road from 2007 to 2011.
So when the team left for a grueling seven-game road trip that began on Dec. 5, it was a daunting task to come out of it with a winning record, especially for a team that had been as bad as the Warriors over the years.
Daunting task no more.
Five games in on the road trip, they have yet to lose a game. The surprising Warriors are now 15-7 on the season and have compiled a 9-4 record away from home. The five-game winning streak on the road matches the longest such streak since the 1978-1979 season, according to the Elias Sports Bureau. In other words, not a single player on the roster was even born when the Warriors were this good.
