Lo, and The Benson said, “Let there be Pelicans,” and it was so.
Or, in other words, New Orleans Owner Tom Benson and his family unveiled the Pelicans new logos and color scheme Thursday.
Former New Orleans Hornet and current Los Angeles Clippers All-Star Chris Paul seemed none too pleased with the change.
As you can see, the color scheme is red, blue and gold (and looks somewhat like the Cleveland Cavaliers).
Among the new branding, probably the most refreshing marks would be the secondary branding: the “Bird-de-lis” mark, the “Circular” Crescent City Basketball mark and the NOLA mark.
The primary Wordmark, featuring the pelican with its wings spread below the name of the city—New Orleans, isn’t a bad design. However, the Pelican isn’t necessarily a fan favorite, nor is it considered cool among the animal kingdom.
Hornets/Pelicans forward Ryan Anderson was on hand for the announcement.
