It’s a new week, with the bankroll reset to $100, and a $25 profit in the books from last week. The main focus of this daily feature is Salary Cap leagues, but we have had some success in Pick ‘Em contests and I really enjoy live Snake drafts when time permits. Another variation is Double-Up leagues, where everyone who finishes in the top half wins the same amount.
Today we’re trying something completely different. It’s a Survivor tournament, spread over three days and closing at 7:00 EST this evening. There will be a maximum of 220 teams, with a $5 entry fee. Tonight and tomorrow, it’s like a Double-Up; the top 110 move on to Tuesday night — points do not carry over — then the top 55 on Tuesday qualify to play again on Wednesday, again on even footing. Wednesday night is money time for the top 20 finishers: $250 for first, $150 for second and $100 for third from the guaranteed $1,000 prize pool. It sounds like fun and that is a lucrative payout for the survivors.
There are seven NBA games tonight, with only one player costing more than $18,000. My recommendations in the chart try to narrow down the options a little, but as always, it’s like fitting together an 8-piece jigsaw puzzle.

DeMar DeRozan | $9,938 |
Carl Landry | $10,292 |
You can make as many roster changes as you like until the 7:00 deadline; breaking news about a sick or injured player can alter the value of others. This is one of the lineups I’ll be using, barring any last-minute inspirations. It is guard-heavy, coupled with the two Jazz big men.
F1 Paul Millsap (UTA-F) $14,901
F2 Carl Landry (GS-F) $10,292
G1 James Harden (HOU-G) $17,023
G2 Deron Williams (BKN-G) $15,451
C1 Al Jefferson (UTA-C) $14,652
C2 JaVale McGee (DEN-C) $8,196
U1 Ty Lawson (DEN-G) $13,478
U2 Jerryd Bayless (MEM-G) $5,746
Jerryd Bayless should outperform his bargain salary even if Mike Conley (ankle) plays and is close to a must-start if Conley can’t go.
It’s always free to open a DraftStreet account. Don’t wait for this Friday’s Freeroll. Start with free leagues that will help you learn the rules, until you’re ready to join a few $2 contests. See you there!
The Fantasy Spin, published by 9:00 every morning, previews all of tonight’s games in more detail and reviews what happened on Sunday, when Rajon Rondo went down for the season.
