It’s amazing. For the second time, over 1,000 people entered the Sheridan Hoops Freeroll. The final number was 1,080 — breaking what I thought was an ‘impossible’ record by 12 teams. “npd828” scored 290.25 points to win the $100 first prize, beating “lilaznalex515” (who won 60 bucks) by 1.5 points and “todruz” earned $30 for thid. My team came 254th; the stars did just fine but my scrubs disappointed, particularly Andray Blatche (who was awful) and Enes Kanter (who barely played). Congratulations to all the prize winners and thanks to everyone who joined.
My week isn’t going so well. We are snowed in, I’m under the weather and there is just $50.50 remaining in the $100 bankroll, which resets every Monday. Once again, the weekend is time to get even, or even worse.

There are five games on Saturday night, fewer high-priced superstars and the pool is especially thin at C, where Andre Drummond is out, Andrew Bogut will probably be rested and Larry Sanders is questionable at best. Here’s one of my three lineups:
F1 Dirk Nowitzki (DAL-F) $11,504
F2 Spencer Hawes (PHI-F) $12,987
G1 Jrue Holiday (PHI-G) $16,364
G2 Tyreke Evans (SAC-G) $13,122
C1 DeMarcus Cousins (SAC-C) $15,080
C2 Lavoy Allen (PHI-C) $9,895
U1 Vince Carter (DAL-G) $10,604
U2 Isaiah Thomas (SAC-G) $10,402
Strategy-wise, I’m going out on a lonely limb with three Sacramento Kings. They are back home after a very long trip, well rested and the Jazz will be exhausted. Salary-wise, it’s one of the most balanced rosters I’ve ever tried, the exact opposite of the Stars-and-Scrubs approach that failed in the Freeroll.
There’s no charge to open a DraftStreet account. Don’t wait for next week’s Freeroll. They offer free leagues every day that will help you learn the rules, and contests ranging from $2 entry fees up to hundreds of dollars.
The Fantasy Spin, published by 9:00 every morning, previews tonight’s games in more detail and reviews a busy on Friday, when Rudy Gay, Kobe Bryant and Carmelo Anthony refused to lose.
