“We’re fine. There’s no panic,” he said. “We lost another game. We didn’t play well, we made mistakes, we did not put together 48 minutes of basketball, but there’s going to be no panic.”
Is Jackson whistling in the dark? Since New Year’s Day, the Warriors have surrendered 110.1 points in 12 road games, allowing seven foes to shoot 47 percent or better. This week’s skid merely put an extended trend in sharper focus.
“It’s very frustrating,” forward David Lee said. “Not only losing four games in a row, but the manner in which we lost them.”
On Tuesday, Golden State hosts Houston, which dropped a buck-forty with a record 23 threes on the Warriors one week ago. If the Warriors lose that game, they will enter the All-Star break on a five-game skid.
For a franchise that has made the playoffs once since 1994, then there might be panic.
MILWAUKEE: The Jim Boylan honeymoon is officially over.
The Bucks were 16-16 when Scott Skiles stepped away as coach on Jan. 8, then won eight of their first 11 games under Boylan to climb to a season-high five games above .500. Since then, however, Milwaukee has dropped five of six, with the only win against free-falling Orlando.
So the Bucks were a .500 team under Skiles, and have been pretty much a .500 team under Boylan.
In the final minute of Saturday’s home loss to Detroit, Brandon Jennings took all the shots while Monta Ellis – who can opt out of his contract after this season – played bystander. He took one shot in the fourth quarter and nine total.
Afterward, Boylan said, “I want (Ellis) to play his game. Whatever his game is, I want him to play it.”
Forward Mike Dunleavy added, “I don’t think I’m reaching when I say we’re obviously not on the same page now. “We’re in a funk. Everybody’s got their own little issues.”
The Bucks have six players – Dunleavy among them – in the final year of their contracts. That doesn’t include Jennings, who did not get the contract extension he was looking for in October and is headed for restricted free agency. At the same time, Dunleavy and Marquis Daniels are the only rotation players to play in the postseason in either of the last two years.
The Bucks have slipped to the eighth seed in the East. They host the improving Wizards on Monday before what is shaping up to be a huge home game Wednesday vs. the 76ers, who are three games back in the playoff chase.
If they lose that game, GM John Hammond – fortified with a three-year contract extension – might be eyeballing the Feb. 21 trading deadline.
TRIVIA: Who is the only non-NBA player to participate in the Three-Point Shootout? Answer below.
THE END OF CIVILIZATION AS WE KNOW IT: At Wednesday’s Pacers-76ers game at the Wells Fargo Center, a fan bought an entire row of seats for himself – for less than a dollar.
QUOTE OF THE WEEK: Lakers superstar Kobe Bryant, on his driving dunk over Nets forwards Gerald Wallace and Kris Humphries:
“I think everybody’s been drinking the ‘Kobe Pass Kool-Aid,’ so everybody kind of stayed on the perimeter on the shooters and it just parted like the Red Sea. So I felt a little like Moses.”
LINE OF THE WEEK: James Harden, Houston vs. Portland, Feb. 8: 38 minutes, 13-16 FGs, 4-5 3-pointers, 5-6 FTs, seven rebounds, 11 assists, one steal, three turnovers, 35 points in a 118-103 win. Harden may have been even better two nights earlier in a loss at Miami, when he was 36-12-7 with three steals while outplaying LeBron James and Dwyane Wade. But he shot better in this one, a win for the Rockets.
LINE OF THE WEAK: Andray Blatche, Brooklyn at Washington, Feb. 8: 16 minutes, 2-9 FGs, 0-1 3-pointers, 1-6 FTs, four rebounds, one assist, three steals, one turnovers, two fouls, five points in an 89-74 loss. Washington’s favorite son was booed every time he touched the ball and brought unbridled glee to Wizards fans with his many misses from the field and the line.

On the trivia question – I believe Craig Hodges was invited to the 3 point competition in a year when he was no longer an NBA player, because he was defending his title, but the Bulls didn’t offer him a contract that year.
