The Trail Blazers, who were had lost eight of their previous ten games and had been on a seven-game losing streak, defeated the Boston Celtics 92-86 behind the strong play of their shooting guard. Wesley Matthews was on fire, leading all scorers with 24 points on 72.7-percent shooting. When former AAU teammates Dwight Howard and Josh Smith were not traded Thursday, they made the offseason all the more interesting. Lakers GM Mitch Kupchak held onto Howard and Hawks GM Danny Ferry was unsuccessful in trying to trade Smith.
