March 1 Game Previews
NYK @ WAS: These teams have split two meetings, each winning at home. John Wall was stellar in the Wizards’ victory last month, but has been ice-cold (30.7%) for six games. If he wakes up, Bradley Beal will be even better. The Knicks are in a battle for the second seed in the playoffs and can’t take this lightly. Carmelo Anthony and Tyson Chandler are always must-starts, with J.R. Smith and Amare Stoudemire worth using.
HOU @ ORL: It’s not the best stretch for the Rockets, who blew large leads to lose their last two games and have two essential players listed as game-time decisions. James Harden (knee) and Jeremy Lin (ankle) will probably give it a go, but may not be their normal selves; Patrick Beverley is in line for extra minutes. Unlike Houston, which is trying to hang on to a playoff spot, Orlando has nothing to play for but developing the kids. Tobias Harris and Beno Udrih have made an impact since arriving in the Redick trade.
IND @ TOR: Oddly enough, the home team has lost all three previous meetings, which were all decided by exactly two points. Indiana lost at home last night, then had to clear customs, so they aren’t well rested. They will have Hibbert back, and Roy might take out his frustrations on Jonas Valanciunas. Toronto is relying heavily — perhaps too much — on Rudy Gay and DeMar DeRozan; they could use more production from the frontcourt and bench.
LAC @ CLE: A road back-to-back is never easy. At least the Clippers are in a good mood after a tough win against a very good team. Meanwhile, the Cavaliers not only survived the last two games without Kyrie Irving (knee), they thrived, winning both to finish their best month yet since LBJ made his Decision. If Irving returns — or even if he doesn’t — a possible upset is looming.
GSW @ BOS: What will Stephen Curry do for an encore? Don’t expect another 54 points, as David Lee will be back from his 1-game suspension and will be sharing the offensive load. Boston is very well rested after a tough road trip out west. Paul Pierce is the focal point and Kevin Garnett the heart and soul. If Avery Bradley’s ball pressure can slow down Curry, I like their chances.
MEM @ MIA: This could look like a playoff game, because Memphis plays that way all the time. Miami has won 12 in a row, with LeBron James shooting a ridiculous 65% over that stretch, and the Grizzlies have ripped off eight straight wins, with Marc Gasol and Zach Randolph a superb 1-2 punch up front. Something’s gotta give. This is the game to watch, if not the best source of fantasy numbers.
