SH Blog: Grizzlies surge into Miami; Bynum may miss entire season; Kings to stay in Sacramento?
- Another setback for Andrew Bynum may sideline him for the rest of the season, according to the Associated Press: “Bynum admitted for the first time that he may not play for the Philadelphia 76ers because of swelling in his right knee. Bynum had been steadfast since training camp that he would eventually make his Sixers’ debut, even setting an All-Star break target date. Bynum backed off Friday because he still had swelling in his right knee from five-on-five drills last week. Bynum, an All-Star last season with the Lakers, refused to commit to a comeback.”
- Their will officially be a showdown in Sacramento for the Kings’ franchise. According to the Associated Press, the NBA has received a bid from a Sacramento group to buy the Kings and keep them in Sac-town: “Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson announced the Mastrov-Burkle bid during his State of the City address Thursday night, calling it a “competitive offer.” Johnson tweeted Friday: “The proposal is IN!! A proud day for Sacramento!!””
- Grant Napear, the TV voice of the Sacramento Kings is reporting that the team has released backup point guard Aaron Brooks Friday afternoon: “Brooks was signed to a two year deal this summer with a player option for his second year. Like all the Kings’ Point Guards, he has seen his minutes juggled from backup, to starter, to DNP-CDs. It didn’t help matters that the Kings acquired yet another Point Guard in Toney Douglas as part of the Thomas Robinson-Patrick Patterson trade. In probably very related news, today is the deadline for players to be released from their contracts in order to sign with other teams and be eligible for the playoffs.”
Aaron Brooks will likely sign with the Houston Rockets, league sources tell Y! Sports.
