- Looking to add depth to its frontcourt, the Chicago Bulls have signed forward Lou Amundson to a 10-day contract, more from ESPN.com: “Amundson, who’s expected to sign the contract Saturday after taking a physical, will help fill the void created by the MCL sprain suffered by Taj Gibson, who could miss a couple of weeks.”
- In a revealing interview with USAToday’s Sam Amick, Steve Nash admits to not having any regrets about being traded to the Los Angeles Lakers: “The issues that have plagued this team have seemed endless, from the coaching change after just five games to talk of locker room strife between Kobe Bryant and Dwight Howard to injuries that helped derail what already was a teetering train. And so, Nash — the Picasso of point guards, a masterful orchestrator of offenses — has been asked to change. He plays off the ball, watching Bryant take his old job for long stretches before he’s able to put his old hat on. He does what Lakers coach Mike D’Antoni, his friend and longtime coach with the Phoenix Suns, has asked them all to do: sacrifice.”
- Los Angeles Lakers’ GM Mitch Kupchak continues to defend Dwight Howard, per USAToday.com: “There’s been no year and a half like the last year and a half,” the longtime Lakers executive told USA TODAY Sports in an extensive interview. “We’ve had some pretty off-the-wall years here – the year Magic (Johnson) announced (he had HIV), the other lockout year when Del Harris was coaching and Kurt (Rambis) took over and we brought back on Dennis Rodman, and with Shaq (O’Neal) and Kobe (Bryant), maybe even Eddie Jones – who couldn’t seem to get over the hump because everything was crammed into a half a year, and it was like one unpredictable thing (after another). This has been a unique period. I can’t think of anything I can compare it to.”
- As the Brooklyn Nets prepare to host the Dallas Mavericks, the topic of the Mavericks courting Deron Williams this offseason has been revisited. But the question begs, did the Mavericks dodge a bullet when Williams decided to sign with Brooklyn? More from Hoopsworlds’ Bill Ingram: ““It’s just another game,” Williams said. “That’s behind me. I’m part of the Brooklyn Nets. There’s no reason to revisit that.” That could be the end of the story, but of course, there is usually a better question to ask. What Williams thinks about his own decision is already on the record, but what if we take a look at his decision from another perspective? Would the Mavericks really be a better team with Williams at the helm?”
