No starter scored more than eight points and Carmelo Anthony left with a sore knee after just 14 minutes, but the Knicks won anyway. We don’t know yet if Melo will miss any additional time. Amare Stoudemire (22 PTS, 6 REB) played a season-high 32 minutes and J.R. Smith (18 PTS, 7 REB, 7 AST) keeps bombing away. Jason Kidd (12 PTS, 8 REB, 3 STL) played 30 minutes off the bench and hit three 3-pointers, while Steve Novak (15 PTS) connected on four of seven shots, all from deep. For Cleveland, Kyrie Irving (22 PTS, 6 AST, 5 REB) looked good after missing three games with a knee injury, and Marreese Speights (23 PTS, 8 REB) made the most of a start at C. Tyler Zeller and Dion Waiters were both out with an illness; Wayne Ellington (7 PTS in 26:32) started at SG. Tristan Thompson (14 PTS, 8 REB) wasn’t quite as good as I hoped, in part because Speights played so well.

MIA @ MIN: It’s 15 wins and counting for the Heat, who rolled over an opponent devastated by injuries. Dwyane Wade (32 PTS, 10 AST, 7 REB) was the star, as LeBron James (20 PTS, 10 REB, 4 AST, 3 STL, 2 BLK) was only human for one night. Derrick Williams (25 PTS, 10 REB) led Minnesota and Ricky Rubio (14 PTS, 8 AST, 5 REB, 6 STL) played very well, despite six turnovers. Dante Cunningham (8 PTS, 11 REB) is the best big man left standing. It was a rough night for J.J. Barea (4 PTS, 4 REB, 4 AST) who missed ten of 11 shots then got ejected for a flagrant-2 foul.
ORL @ NOH: Where did that come from? The Magic, in a back-to-back, erased a 17-point deficit with 69 second-half points. Jameer Nelson (15 PTS, 7 AST, 4 REB) returned from a knee injury and Arron Afflalo (26 PTS, 5 REB, 5 AST) sealed the deal with five points in the final minute. Tobias Harris (15 PTS, 5 REB, 2 AST, 2 STL) bounced back from an off-night vs. Memphis and played twice as many minutes as Andrew Nicholson (8 PTS, 2 REB), who remains the nominal starter. For the future Pelicans, Anthony Davis (17 PTS, 15 REB, 4 BLK) looked great in his return from a sore shoulder and Greivis Vasquez (17 PTS, 8 AST) was solid, but they gave away the game with sloppy defense.
UTA @ MIL: Man, that’s an ugly box score. Three Jazz starters were scoreless on combined 0-for 15 shooting and they still almost won. Paul Millsap (22 PTS, 14 REB, 3 AST, 3 STL) played a whopping 44 minutes after missing two games, and with Al Jefferson (ankle) out, Derrick Favors (23 PTS, 15 REB) started at center, but Enes Kanter (18 PTS, 10 REB) saw 31 minutes off the bench. Alec Burks (19 PTS, 4 AST, 3 REB, 2 STL) got the majority of PG minutes. A terrible 3-for-16 shooting night by Gordon Hayward (13 PTS, 7 REB, 5 AST) didn’t help matters. Apart from Larry Sanders (8 PTS, 16 REB, 3 AST, 6 BLK) it was all guards, all the time for Milwaukee. Monta Ellis (34 PTS, 4 REB, 3 AST, 4 STL) hit 15 of 21 shots and Brandon Jennings (20 PTS, 17 AST, 3 STL) hit four triples in a team-high 46 minutes. His owners can breathe easier; J.J. Redick (17) remains a productive sixth man.
ATL @ DEN: Not only were the Hawks tired, they were missing DeShawn Stevenson (rest), Zaza Pachulia (Achilles) and Kyle Korver (toe) so they had to start Dahntay Jones (4 PTS in 35 minutes) and Anthony Tolliver (9 PTS in 36 minutes) against the speedy Nuggets. Ty Lawson (18 PTS, 8 AST, 3 STL) was Denver’s best starter, and Corey Brewer (22 PTS, 4 REB, 3 AST, 2 STL) was the hot hand off the bench, though Wilson Chandler (13 PTS, 5 REB, 3 AST) continues to play well. Kenneth Faried double-doubled (10 PTS, 13 REB) in less than 26 minutes after almost disappearing against the Thunder.
