Since the All-Star break, the play of the Lakers’ biggest stars – Howard, Steve Nash and Kobe Bryant – have gone up a notch, as they continue to push for a spot in the playoffs. With a 1/2 lead over the Utah Jazz for the eighth seed in the Western Conference, the possibility of playing beyond April is slowly but surely becoming a goal within reach for the Lakers, even with a relatively difficult schedule that lies ahead of them.
So are players or teams around the league concerned about the possibility of facing the Lakers when the regular season ends? If the season ended today, they would end up facing the San Antonio Spurs in the first round.
The Spurs, however, lost to the lowly Minnesota Timberwolves on Tuesday after electing to rest Tim Duncan and Kawhi Leonard. The move prompted one of Danny Green’s buddies to make a statement about why the Spurs sat out two key players, which Green had a prompt response for:
I think it’s fair to say that shots were fired here. Should the two teams end up facing each other in the playoffs, Green’s message may serve as solid bulletin board material for the Lakers.
