Money For Nothing? Sign Me Up!
It looks like we’ll have a record number of entries in this week’s Sheridan Hoops Freeroll. There are 950 teams already, and it doesn’t close until 7:00 EDT, so 1,200 (or more) is a distinct possibility. There is no limit, and no reason you shouldn’t try to win the $100 first prize. It’s completely free to join DraftStreet, no credit card or deposit required, and there’s no entry fee. That’s zero risk, $300 in cash to the top 15, and it’s great fun win or lose.
Just pick an 8-man team of players from tonight’s ten NBA games, without exceeding the $100,000 salary cap. There are five ‘positive’ scoring categories — PTS, REB, AST, STL and BLK — but you lose points for turnovers, missed field goals and missed free throws. The team with the most points (in tonight’s games only) wins the hundred bucks and priceless bragging rights.

The player pool tonight is very interesting. Among 260 choices, it’s kind of top-heavy. No less than 50 are in the “Stars” price range ($13,000 and up) but unless I’m missing some hidden gems, the “Scrubs” category (under $9,000) is more quantity than quality. Jodie Meeks is one notable exception; priced like a backup, he will probably start for the injured Kobe Bryant. All of the salaries in today’s chart are NOT for the Freeroll, where the prices were set several days ago. They are for the hundreds of other leagues that are offered tonight, where your odds of winning are much better because the prize pools are larger and the number of entries is capped. There are millions of other possible combinations. The challenge is to fit different-sized ‘pieces’ together and have all eight of your players contribute. Again, the Freeroll salaries may be quite different. Donatas Motiejunas costs only $6,752 in that contest; a huge Wednesday has added more than $2,700 to his price tag in other leagues and I still like him. Good luck with all your teams!
