After months of invigorating highs and devastating lows, the North Carolina State Wolfpack have finally made it to the NCAA Tournament. The star-studded N.C. State team had underachieved, but the committee clearly valued their late-season push.
So what should we know about the Wolfpack?
1. The North Carolina State Wolfpack are one of the most under-achieving teams in college basketball. They began the season as the No. 6 ranked team in the AP and Coaches Polls, yet finished the season unranked. Fortunately, they’ve turned it on at the right time.
2. N.C. State embodies the word “star power.” Richard Howell was a first team All-ACC selection, Lorenzo Brown was second team All-ACC and C.J. Leslie was third team All-ACC. T.J. Warren was an All-ACC Freshman team selection.
3. North Caorlina State is 14-3 when Richard Howell posts a double-double. They’re 10-7 when he fails to. The formula for success is clear.
4. For all they lack on defense, the Wolfpack certainly make up for it on offense. They’re 12th in the nation in points per game, fifth in field goal percentage and 12th in three-point field goal percentage.
5. Over the course of the season, defense has been a non-factor for the North Carolina State Wolfpack. During the ACC Tournament, the Wolfpack held the nation’s leading scorer, Erick Green (.475/.389/.816), to 5-of-19 shooting. Joe Harris (16.9 PPG, .473/.432/.766) was held to 4-of-13 shooting.
