BRK @ POR: All those who thought Reggie Evans (22 PTS, 26 REB, 3 AST) would dominate this game, raise your hand. OK, put down your hands, liars. Brook Lopez (28 PTS, 5 REB) was also sharp as the visiting Nets roared out to a 20-point lead in the first quarter. LaMarcus Aldridge (24 PTS, 4 REB, 3 AST) was the only Blazers starter to play well, as J.J. Hickson (8 PTS, 7 REB) got outmuscled and the shots wouldn’t fall for anyone else. You can stick a fork in Portland’s playoff dream, but until last night they showed tremendous resolve.
SAC @ GSW: For some reason, the Warriors have trouble against Sacramento. Stephen Curry (17 PTS, 12 AST, 5 REB, 4 STL) and David Lee (20 PTS, 10 REB, 4 AST) had decent numbers and Jarrett Jack (16 PTS, 7 AST) was solid off the bench, but a brutal 1-for-13 night for Klay Thompson (4 PTS, 4 AST, 3 REB) scuttled their chances. Tyreke Evans (12 PTS, 5 AST, 3 REB) was back from his illness for the Kings, who got seven 3-pointers from Isaiah Thomas (31 PTS, 7 AST, 3 REB) in this surprising upset.
Thursday Previews
LAL @ MIL: Both teams played on the road last night. The Bucks were out-of-sync in Philadelphia and the Lakers got the job done in Minnesota. The simmering feud between Milwaukee coach Jim Boylan and his unhappy point guard may have escalated into a war that young Mr. Jennings can’t win. That can really upset team chemistry — sorry, statheads, anyone who has ever worn a uniform knows it exists — and I would not count on a turnaround this evening.
IND @ DAL: Whatever got into Hibbert last night, they should bottle it. The Mavericks have developed some resilience while growing those scraggly beards, and with a win tonight, they will be at their goal of a .500 record, allowing them to shave. They are 10-4 in March, with every game a must-win, and have climbed to within 1.5 games of a playoff berth. Indiana is the better team, but they don’t have nearly as much motivation, or desperation. Dirk Nowitzki won’t let Dallas lose tonight, and all his teammates will follow their leader.
SAC @ PHO: This is a pair of tired teams with nothing to play for, but the Kings are a loose, happy bunch and the Suns are a mess. Who knows whether Dragic is being shut down, or will be back in action? If he doesn’t play, rookie Kendall Marshall will get another start at PG; last night he had seven points and 13 assists, but turned the ball over five times. He’s unlikely to slow down IT2, the best fantasy play in this debacle.
