If the Pacers are going to make a deep playoff run, they’re going to have to do it without Danny Granger.
(Are they silently applauding at NBA headquarters? Nothing says “bad ratings” like “Catch the Pacers’ playoff game tonight.”)
The Pacers announced Thursday that Granger will miss the remainder of the season to undergo surgery on his left knee. The decision was made after all Conservative (sic) treatment options could not alleviate the soreness Granger encountered After consultation among Granger, the team’s medical staff and Dr. James Andrews, surgery became the preferred option.
Granger underwent a procedure in late October for patellar tendinosis. He returned Feb. 25 and played just five games before continued soreness in the knee sidelined him.
After further rehab did not ease the soreness, surgery was decided on. He is expected to be ready for training camp.
The Pacers (45-27) entered Thursday in a virtual tie with the New York Knicks (44-26) for second place in the East. They hold a 2-1 lead in the season series with one meeting remaining in New York on April 14.
