Lay it up: Which match-ups are most enticing and which teams will be moving on to Atlanta?
Jeremy Bauman: IU-Cuse is going to be extremely entertaining.
Michigan and Kansas is going to be fun to watch, also.
Duke vs. Michigan State, though, has a chance to be an epic battle between coaches and players alike.
Why can’t this game go into triple overtime? Seriously, why?!
(Paging Buffalo Wild Wings..)
There’s gonna be no quit in the players or the coaches, not to mention both teams are loaded with talent.
As for who makes it to Atlanta, I’ve got Indiana, Ohio State, Louisville and Michigan reaching the Final Four.
(Though my bracket is in shambles and am sick of making picks. Enjoy the Sweet 16!)
Maxwell Ogden: There are games with a higher profile, but I’m going to go with Miami and Marquette. They’re two well-coached teams that preach defensive pressure and are as tough as nails. Neither team plays pretty, but both have been able to get the job done this season.
Watching Durand Scott battle Vander Blue should be one of the most memorable moments of the Tournament. This game also presents Shane Larkin with a chance to boost his draft stock, as he’s moving dangerously close to the stage of legends.
As for who will advance to Atlanta, I’m with you, Jeremy. I’ve got Louisville beating Duke in the Midwest and Michigan getting past Florida in the South. In the West I’m going Ohio State over La Salle. That leaves the East, where Indiana will advance past Marquette in the Regional Final.
Ben Baroff: Duke and Michigan State is a classic matchup, Jeremy. The coaches, the history, it will be fantastic. But we’ve seen it before.
Perennial Powerhouse X (Florida) and Cinderella Y (Florida Gulf Coast) is a great story, but we’ve also seen it before.
On March 30, 1987 Indiana defeated Syracuse 74-73 on a last second shot by Keith Smart to win the National Championship. To this day it is one of the greatest moments in tournament history, and one that still haunts Syracuse fans to this day.
Nearly 26 years to the day, ‘Cuse has its chance to exact revenge. Two storied programs with championship aspirations. Scratch that, championship expectations.
Both schools have a strong alumni presence in D.C., which should make its way into the Verizon Center. It’s the Sweet Sixteen but feels like the Regional Final. And it’s likely to come down to the wire.
This weave has been in more sync than ever before. My picks: Louisville, Michigan, Ohio State and Indiana.
Safe travels down to Atlanta, everyone.
