RANK | PLAYER | RUNDOWN | LAST |
1 | DWIGHT HOWARD, C, LA LAKERS: In danger of missing playoffs, but numbers over past week make you say “Holy Crap!” Averaged 21 points, 15.3 rebounds, an astonishing 4.3 blocks and an even more astonishing 71 percent from the field. Superman lives! | 2
2 | AL JEFFERSON, C, UTAH: Answered the bell with 22.8 points, 8.5 rebounds and 2.8 steals and 2.0 blocks per game. Throw in a five-game winning streak and that means Big Al is a big mover after a big week. | 6
3 | JOSH SMITH, F, ATLANTA: Still leading a team that has overachieved. Followed up Saturday’s 21-point, nine-rebound, three-block effort with 18 points, 14 boards and eight assists in a Monday night win. Now THAT is Smoove. | 3
4 | CHRIS PAUL, G, LA CLIPPERS: Team just went 1-4 in a critical stretch that included losses to all three Texas teams. CP3 put up some good numbers, but we can’t overlook the 3.8 TOs per game or 35 percent shooting over last four. | 1
5 | TYREKE EVANS, G, SACRAMENTO (R): We dig Tyreke’s all-around game. We really do, just not the inconsistency. A 2-1 week including a win at the Warriors and 5.7 assists per game is nice. But we want more than 15 points per game. | 4
6 | PAUL MILLSAP, F, UTAH: We can’t show love to Big Al with giving respect to P-Mill, especially not after dropping nine assists on Brooklyn on Saturday night, just one day after a sweet 25-point, 10-rebound double-double on J.J. Hickson’s head. | 7
7 | DAVID WEST, F, INDIANA: Returned from back injury just in time to help team remain second out East with an impressive 16 points, seven rebounds and six assists at mighty Clippers on Monday night, despite a 41-point fourth quarter from CP3’s clique. | 9
8 | J.J. HICKSON, F, PORTLAND: One of the more intriguing young bigs of the class. Two double-doubles vs. Jazz and at Warriors is nice, but two stinkers against Nets and at Jazz is not. Still an enigma and a risk to give big long-term money. | 5
9 | NATE ROBINSON, G, CHICAGO: Shoots up the charts after his 14 points in 22 minutes of the streak-busting win over the Heat, followed by 7-of-7 threes in Dallas. Top 10 may be short-lived despite 18.3 points on 50 percent shooting last week. | 14
10 | BRANDON JENNINGS, G, MILWAUKEE (R): Atrocious effort at Thunder on Saturday included eight points on 3-of-13 shooting. Can’t be redeemed by 19 points and six assists dropped on Bobcats last night, cuz they’re the Bobcats. | 8
11 | KENYON MARTIN, F, NEW YORK: Numbers have tapered off a bit, but Knicks season-high eight-game winning steak is no coincidence. Martin can still play and will get someone’s money this summer. Another great move by Glen Grunwald. | 13
12 | COREY BREWER, F, DENVER: Brewer hits shots, he misses shots, but his effort remains. Most importantly, he is a part of a winning culture. That often means more than numbers when determining value. |
10 | |
13 | KEVIN MARTIN, G, OKLAHOMA CITY: No coincidence that the loss the Thunder endured last week was a 1-of-9 game for Martin. Maybe we’re too harsh, but his stint in OKC has been unimpressive and he’s giving them a discount to stick around. | 12
14 | ANDRAY BLATCHE, C, BROOKLYN: Helped Nets survive tough eight-game road trip with 12.7 points per game off the bench and 72 percent shooting from the field. Brooklyn officially concerned about affordability of retaining him. | –
15 | TONY ALLEN, G, MEMPHIS: Followed up an impressive double-double (16 points, 10 rebounds) against Knicks with 16 points in win at Houston. We’ll overlook Monday’s stinker since Grizzlies beat Spurs and still have shot at fourth seed. | – |
DROPPED OUT:
- Manu Ginobili, G, San Antonio (14): He’ll be back. In San Antonio. This season and for years to come when he re-ups.
- Andrew Bynum, C, Philadelphia (15): Bounced from top 15 by combo of Kenyon Martin and Andray Blatche.
ON THE BUBBLE:
- Devin Harris, G, Atlanta: 17/4/6 caught our eyes. Quietly put together consecutive strong starts.
- Martell Webster, G-F, Washington: Wizards want to keep him for a reason.

How is Nikola Pekovic (RFA) not on the list? 16pts and 9rbs a game but somehow can’t top Andray Blatche and Kenyon Martin. This is why I don’t come to this site anymore.
James Plowright says
What does Gerald Henderson have to do to get on the ladder? I mean Webster gets a mention and he doesn’t? Outrageous.
