That doesn’t make the question any less pointless. I just think that the cumulative effect of dealing with inanity has driven Pop to take the approach you describe. I don’t blame him.
It is silly because it presumes that there is a particular player that will “have to step up”. How should that question be answered: by naming a particular player or particular players? by saying “everyone”? by saying “I don’t know, let’s see who rises to the occasion”? And why is it that there is a specific person that “has to” do it? It seems like a reflex question that isn’t likely to lead anywhere useful.
See, that’s not what Pop is processing in his mind in that split second while he’s being asked the question. He’s doing this on purpose, and he’s doing everything he can to give the crappiest answer possible, no matter the question.
Disagree re: Pop. He will likely stop giving those kind of answers when he stops being asked insipid, silly questions.
