5. Willie Warren
When it comes to McDonald’s All-American performances, few players have shown out in the way that Willie Warren was able to in 2008. Although Tyreke Evans took home the MVP award, Warren was out-of-this-world incredible from a scoring perspective.
Warren dropped a game-high 23 points on 11-of-17 shooting in less than 22 minutes.
From there, Warren went on to star at the University of Oklahoma. At 6’4″ with a powerful 200-plus pound frame, Warren managed to attack elite Big 12 defenses and score at virtual will. He averaged 14.6 points and 3.1 assists per game as a freshman to support star Blake Griffin.
The two managed to lead Oklahoma to their first Elite Eight appearance since 2003.
In the midst of a sophomore season in which he upped his numbers, however, Warren sustained a sprained ankle. This ultimately led to his missing playing time and foregoing his junior season to attempt a career in the NBA.
The Los Angeles Clippers took Warren with the 54th pick in the 2010 NBA Draft, thus reuniting him with college teammate Blake Griffin. Warren played 19 games for the team, splitting time in the D-League, before being waived in late 2011.
This proved to be the fire to push Warren over the edge, as he finished his D-League career with averages of 17.0 points, 4.7 assists and 3.8 rebounds per game.
Warren has since ended his tenure in the D-League and moved overseas to play for Maccabi Rishon LeZion of the Israeli Super League. In that time, Warren has become one of the more lethal scorers in Israel by averaging 17.3 points and 4.2 assists per game.
To put it simply, Warren is doing in Israel what he’s done all along—scoring the rock as well as anyone in the world.
