Hello and welcome to the Evening News.
As the NBA regular season has concluded and the playoffs get set to begin, we’ll keep you updated every evening. What’s happening today?
Here’s the latest news around the league:
Pistons fire Lawrence Frank.
Realgm.com’s Jerrod Rudolph reports that the Detroit Pistons have decided to cut ties with Lawrence Frank. Yesterday, Frank gave Pistons’ ownership the ultimatum to either fire him or pick up his option for 2014-15. Today, Detroit has decided on the former. Frank went 54-94 in his two seasons in Detroit.
While the Pistons’ future looks bright with a nucleus of Andre Drummond, Greg Monroe, and Brandon Knight, they still appear to be a few years away from postseason contention.
According to sources, the Pistons are interested in interviewing Jerry Sloan, Nate McMillan, and Heat assistant David Fizdale for the opening.
Cavaliers fire Byron Scott.
According to USA Today’s Jeff Zillgitt and Sam Amick, the Cleveland Cavaliers have also decided to fire their head coach. Byron Scott had a 66-166 record in three seasons in Cleveland. When Scott initially took the job in the summer of 2010, there was still a chance LeBron James would return to Cleveland.
Instead, Scott was faced with three years of rebuilding. He built a strong relationship with Kyrie Irving in their two seasons together. However, the relationship was evidently not strong enough to keep Scott in Cleveland.
“I have tremendous respect for Byron professionally and a great deal of admiration for him personally,” said Cavaliers General Manager Chris Grant. “At the same time, it is critical for where we are as a team to ensure that we capitalize on every opportunity for development and success and we have fallen short of that on the court. I believe we needed to make this change in order to get to a better position to achieve our goals. I know I speak on behalf of the entire Cavs organization and the Cleveland community, in thanking Byron for his three years here and his hard work and many contributions on and off the court. We wish Bryon and his wife, Anita, the best.”
Nash has good chance of playing Sunday.
Yahoo! Sports’ Marc J. Spears reports that Steve Nash has a good chance of playing in Game 1 against San Antonio on Sunday afternoon. Nash had two epidural injections into his lower back earlier in the week.
According to Nash, if the treatment works, he will be back in action shortly, “It really depends on whether the two epidurals work.If they kick in, I have a good chance to play.”
With three days to rest until their matchup in San Antonio, the Lakers sound optimistic that Nash will be ready to play.
“He felt a lot better [Wednesday],” Kupchak told Spears. “He had a limited workout, which he really hasn’t been able to do. We’re hoping that [Thursday] morning he feels better and can increase the workout a little bit.”

Lost in last night’s late games, is that San Antonio played Ginobili 12 minutes & Parker play well 27 minutes. Pop covered up his tracks by played subs in the 2nd half & registered a loss.
We had been led to believe that Spurs would be going into the playoffs crippled.
I expect a Spurs win in 4 or 5 games.

Lawrence Frank isn’t stupid. By being fired, he gets to keep his $3 million for next year and be available as other job openings occur. Cleveland may not do any better than Frank.
Really overconfident to thing they could convince Jerry Sloan to go to Cleveland.
