- Chris Paul says Eric Bledsoe is too good to be playing for the Clippers next season, from Jeff Caplan of NBA.com: “In praising young guard Eric Bledsoe, did Chris Paul divulge his plan to be back in a Los Angeles Clippers uniform next season and beyond? Bled is one of the best guards in our league,” Paul said following Sunday’s Los Angeles Clippers practice. “I’ve said it all season long, I’m enjoying playing with him right now because there’s no way he can be here next year because we probably won’t have enough money to pay him. He should be a starting point guard.”… “For him, I’m just enjoying it and I love to sit back and watch him because he’s a game-changer,” Paul said. “And like I said [Saturday] night, he’s the key to our run.”
- Mike Woodson plans to use Amare Stoudemire the same way he used him in the regular season when the power forward makes it back in time for postseason action, from Ian Begley of ESPN New York: “If Amar’e Stoudemire returns to the Knicks in the playoffs, he will be a part of the team’s regular rotation, Mike Woodson said on Sunday. “If he’s able to make it back he will be back in the rotation, ready to play,” Woodson said on a conference call with reporters. “I’m expecting him to do what he was doing before he left because he played some pretty good, positive minutes for our ball club before he got hurt.” Woodson expects Stoudemire to return at some point during the postseason but said last week that his “gut” feeling is that Stoudemire will miss the Knicks’ first-round series with the Celtics. “Amar’e is going to always be a big piece of our team, that’s without a doubt,” Woodson said. “He’s progressing right along. When he’s going to play, I don’t know at this point. “(A healthy Stoudemire) just adds one more good piece, great piece, to the puzzle back out on the floor as we continue this journey,” Woodson added.”
- Mike Brown and Dan Gilbert met for a discussion for the coach to return to Cleveland, from Jason Lloyd of Beacon Journal: “There is a proven NBA coach on the market who has never missed the playoffs, always advanced beyond the first round, reached the NBA Finals and won a Coach of the Year award. And if the Cavaliers hire him, the fan base has threatened to revolt. Makes perfect sense. Mike Brown met with Cavs owner Dan Gilbert on Sunday, a league source said in confirming a report by WKYC-TV in Cleveland. It is the first known candidate to interview for the vacant head coaching position — and far and away the juiciest name. Bringing Brown back to the Cavs — after firing him just three years ago — is a fascinating twist in the search to replace Byron Scott as coach. Brown’s .653 winning percentage is sixth-highest in NBA history (minimum 450 games, according to Elias Sports Bureau). He ranks ahead of guys like Stan Van Gundy (.641), Pat Riley (.636) and Jerry Sloan (.604).”
- The Cavs have also reached out to Phil Jackson, according to Brian Windhorst and Marc Stein of ESPN: “As they did eight years ago when he was in retirement, the Cleveland Cavaliers have reached out to Phil Jackson about their head coach opening, sources told ESPN.com. The Cavs, who fired coach Byron Scott on Thursday, have been in touch with Jackson to gauge his interest in returning to coaching and in their open position. Last week, ESPN reported Jackson is increasingly interested in a return to the NBA next season, preferably in a management capacity, after two years away from the game. Jackson is considering other coaching options, sources said. The Brooklyn Netsand possibly the Sacramento Kings — if they relocate to Seattle — are two teams likely to appeal to Jackson more than the Cavaliers, according to sources close to the situation.”
- Kenneth Faried is set to return in Game 2 and wished he could play against David Lee, from Christopher Dempsey of Denver Post: “Kenneth Faried was hoping to play against David Lee. But as Lee, Golden State’s best post player, exits the series after suffering a season-ending torn hip flexor, Faried is set to return, making his series debut for the Nuggets in Game 2 on Tuesday. “It would have been exciting,” Faried said. “He is an all-star and I tend to have a chip on my shoulder about that, because I think I’m able to be an all-star one day. But it would have been exciting, especially in the playoffs because he was playing at a high pace and I would have stepped up my game that much more, not just because it’s the playoffs but even more so because I’m going against an all-star-caliber player.”… Sitting is no longer sitting well with Faried. “You can’t sit me down for that long,” he said. “I get frustrated, I get mad, I start getting a hissy fit.”
- George Hill is playing with a bad hip, according to Zak Keefer of Indy Star: “In George Hill’s mind, the hip is great. In reality, the hip hurts. “If you think about it, your mind starts playing tricks on you,” Hill said after Sunday’s 107-90 Game 1 win over Atlanta. “So when I go out there, I just try and think I’m at 100 percent. I try and block it all out.” Yet it’s there, the same nagging pain that’s trailed him throughout this stretch run, creeping up in games at the most inopportune times. It did so again Sunday. A nasty collision with Hawks point guard Jeff Teague late in the first quarter sent Hill, and his tender left hip, straight to the Bankers Life Fieldhouse floor. “George Hill is a fighter,” Pacers reserve Gerald Green said. “He’s been dealing with that it seems like all season. But he knows we’re in the most important part of the season. Nothing’s stopping him from being out there.” “He doesn’t let it affect his game at all,” Hill’s backup, D.J. Augustin, said. “It looks like there’s nothing wrong with him.”
