If you stayed up Monday night to watch Game 1 between the Golden State Warriors and San Antonio Spurs, you were treated to what may have been the best game of the season.
Of course, if you were a Warriors fan, every second leading up to the end of regulation and double overtime was probably a time of complete and utter despair.
Stephen Curry came out in the third quarter of a close contest and had yet another incredible performance – 22 points on a ridiculous variety of shots – to break open the game. When all said and done, the Warriors had a comfortable 18-point lead in the fourth quarter. It wouldn’t last, however, as they eased up while the Spurs kept clawing back into the game.
Both Klay Thompson and Draymond Green, two of Golden State’s best perimeter defenders, fouled out of the game. Curry played all but four seconds and looked tired down the stretch.
In the end, all momentum was lost, and the relentless comeback by the Spurs was too much to hold off. Still, Golden State found a way to take the lead in double overtime with less than four seconds remaining on Kent Bazemore’s layup, but a defensive lapse allowed Manu Ginobili to get a great look at a game-winning 3-pointer. Of course, the clutch veteran knocked it down to end the game.
(On a side note, who put the mic on the crazy lady that sounded like she was getting tortured by a monster in a scary movie?)
