I won’t break this down to death, but based on the names that have been brought up, we can only assume that Robinson is strictly talking about overall shooting rather than the 3-point shot alone. He is too knowledgeable to exclude some of the best long-range shooters in the history of the game to not have any of them in his top three. Chuck Person, Larry Bird and Chris Mullin – though not completely deadly from the long range – were certainly known for (but not completely limited to) their overall ability to shoot.
That said, excluding what a player does from the 3-point line when talking about the greatness of a shooter is counterproductive and negligent, especially in this era, where it impacts so much of how an offense is geared. The further you are from the basket, the harder it is to make a shot. That’s why they give you an extra point for it.
