Brian Shaw won five championships in Los Angeles with the Lakers, three as a player and two as an assistant coach. Clippers general manager Gary Sacks likes him, and Lamar Odom has endorsed his hiring. Makes sense, right?
Well, nothing ever completely makes sense with the Clippers, where Donald Sterling rules the roost.
And if the owner with a long history of hiring anf firing coaches (and then refusing to pay some of them) is the ultimate authority on who will coach Blake Griffin and Chris Paul (if he stays, which is no sure thing after Sterling publicly blamed Paul for the non-renewal of Vinny Del Negro), who knows which way this’ll go — especially with Sterling reportedly in favor of hiring Lionel Hollins or George Karl.
Which is why I am calling Shaw’s interview with Clippers brass on Monday make-or-break.
