4. Lakers-Celtics, 1962: The Finals futility began for the Lakers with this series. They won Games 2 and 5 in Boston but lost Games 4 and 6 at home and had to win Game 7 in Boston Garden. And they almost did it.
LA was carried by Elgin Baylor (41 points) and West (35). Boston was powered by Bill Russell’s 30 points and 40 rebounds – THIRTY POINTS AND FORTY REBOUNDS – and held a 110-96 lead with 1:14 to play.
The Lakers then got a huge lift from Frank Selvy, who once scored 100 points in a game for Furman University.
Selvy had yet to make a shot in Game 7, but he scored to halve the deficit. Then he scored again to tie the game.
And after the Celtics failed to score, Selvy had a chance to be the hero when he took a pass from Hot Rod Hundley for an open 12-foot baseline jumper. But he missed. The game went to overtime, where Sam Jones scored five of his 27 points and Russell added four. That was enough to give the Celtics a 110-107 victory.
More than a few folks believe Selvy’s miss altered the course of NBA history. Had he made that shot, Boston’s run of titles would have ended at three, while the Lakers would have won a championship just two years after moving west. This was the first of their six Finals losses to the Celtics in an eight-year span. Who knows if the rivalry would have been that one-sided had the Lakers broken through?
Bird is a better shooter and scorer (if Bird shot as much as lebron he’d have more points) and he’s a better passer but again he doesn’t have the ball in his had as much so he has less assist. Bird is a better teammate because he doesn’t have to be involved with everything he plays off the ball better. You ever notice how lebron lead teams live and die with him? Because he is involved with every play. He doesn’t let his teammates take over. Also those stats are stuffed. Lebron plays bell to bell and even if it’s a blowout he will continue to build up stats. As soon as he realizes he can’t win he goes to hero ball which fills up his score sheet. So bird is a better rebounder, passer, shooter and scorer. So explain how is lebron better? Because I’d take bird over bron any day.
James Worthy with a triple double in the NBA Finals game 7. I remember that so vividly.
I appreciate you taking to time to contribute That’s very helpful.
Now that’s subtle! Great to hear from you.
That’s a sensible answer to a challenging question
Thanks for taking the time to post. It’s lifted the level of debate

Touchdown! That’s a really cool way of putting it!
It’s a real pleasure to find someone who can think like that
I’ve been looking for a post like this for an age
That’s a posting full of insight!
Hallelujah! I needed this-you’re my savior.
A few years ago I’d have to pay someone for this information.
Me dull. You smart. That’s just what I needed.
Your’s is the intelligent approach to this issue.
Is that really all there is to it because that’d be flabbergasting.
This is an article that makes you think “never thought of that!”
I’m so glad that the internet allows free info like this!
I’m not easily impressed. . . but that’s impressing me! 🙂
that the severity of his ijruny is being fabricated in an attempt to scare off would-be bidders. Sources tell me Davis hopes to end up with the Knicks, and if he does, he could be available to go w And all of that explains why the Knicks were so hopeful that Jamal Crawford would accept their $2.5
