Slowly but surely, the legacy of LeBron James is growing and taking a more definitive shape with each passing season, each passing championship.
James and the Miami Heat are, once again, NBA Champions for the second consecutive season after defeating the San Antonio Spurs in an epic Game 7 of the NBA Finals that went down to the absolute wire on Thursday. All the drama about LeBron’s inability to consistently hit jump shots – clutch ones at that – continued to slowly flush down and out of our memories as the King found a way to hit one shot after another, including the final mid-range shot over the outstretched arms of Kawhi Leonard with 28 seconds remaining in the game that gave his team a definitive 4-point lead.
Gone are the days when everyone would get on his case for the inability to make plays in the clutch (until next season, that is). Of course, the story could have turned out a whole lot different had the Heat lost Game 6 – which they probably should have – but as the saying goes, “you need some luck to win a championship”, and LeBron got all the luck he needed in Game 6 to close out Game 7. His final line? 37 points on 23 shots, 12 rebounds, four assists and a Finals MVP trophy.
Of course, he didn’t do it alone. The saying is true whether your name is Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant or LeBron: you don’t win a championship by yourself. Dwyane Wade came through with 23 points and 10 rebounds. Mario Chalmers had 14 points, including this miracle 3-point shot, and the struggling Shane Battier came out of nowhere to hit six of his eight 3-pointers in the biggest game of his career. James left Cleveland to get more help from better teammates. While that help came very sporadically through much of the postseason (Chris Bosh curiously had zero points in this game), it was just enough to make him an ultimate winner once again.
Tim Duncan did all he could to help the Spurs win their elusive fifth championship with 24 points, 12 rebounds and four steals, but failed to hit a point-blank shot at the rim with less than a minute remaining in the game that would have tied the score. It didn’t help that his usually-reliable partner in Tony Parker scored just 10 points on three-of-12 shooting and was generally ineffective through much of the game. It also didn’t help that Danny Green, who has made a name for himself in these playoffs as one of the best shooters in the league, managed to go just one-of-12. What appeared to be a destined run for a title turned into yet another painful end for these Spurs.
For the final time this season, here are the reactions of players around the league sharing their deepest thoughts about what transpired in one of the most epic Finals series in NBA history:

Incredible! This blog looks exactly like my old one!
It’s on a entirely different subject but it has pretty much the same page layout and design. Excellent choice of colors!
