Hello and welcome to the Evening News.
Here’s what’s happening around the league:
Dwight Howard unlikely to return to Los Angeles
ESPN’s Chris Broussard reports that Dwight Howard has probably played his last game with the Lakers.
Howard is unenthusiastic about the idea of playing for Mike D’Antoni again and wants to go to a team where he can be featured in the offense.
Broussard named the Mavericks as the slight front runners in the pursuit of Howard but didn’t dismiss the possibility of Howard signing in Houston.
While the Lakers can offer Howard approximately $30 million more than any other team, sources say Howard is more concerned with being comfortable than with maxing out his profits.
Howard did not enjoy playing second fiddle to Kobe Bryant last season and is intrigued by the idea of teaming up with Dirk Nowitzki and taking over the reigns as Dallas’ franchise player for the future.
Meanwhile, Howard has concerns that Houston’s playing style would marginalize his offensive capabilities.
Celtics and Nets discuss blockbuster trade
According to Yahoo! Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski, the Celtics and Nets are discussing a potential blockbuster trade that would send both Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce to Brooklyn.
In the trade, the Celtics would send Garnett, Pierce, and either Jason Terry or Courtney Lee’s long term contract to the Nets in exchange for Kris Humphries, Gerald Wallace, Tornike Shenglia, and three first round picks.
Reports suggest that any trade between the teams would not include the Nets’ first round pick from tonight.
One key to the trade is Boston’s willingness to take on the remaining three years and $30 million dollars that the Nets owe 30-year-old Gerald Wallace. For a Celtics team looking to rebuild, Wallace’s age and contract appear to be a clumsy fit.
While Kevin Garnett has a no-trade clause, he might be willing to accept a trade if he gets packaged to a big market alongside Pierce.

Neither side will approach Garnett about waiving his no-trade clause until after the trade is agreed upon by both teams.
