Free agent forward Austin Daye was supposed to be the future – at least somewhat – for the Detroit Pistons when they took him with the 15th overall pick back in the 2009-2010 season. He had height, length and the ability to shoot the ball with range. Unfortunately, he never could find consistency offensively and never developed enough strength or speed to be able to handle guarding the forward position on the defensive end. He was consequently traded to the Memphis Grizzlies last season, but failed to make much of an impact off the bench.
On Tuesday, Daye reportedly agreed to a two-year deal worth $2 million with the Toronto Raptors. With Rudy Gay and Landry Fields at small forward and Amir Johnson and Tyler Hansbrough manning the power forward position, Daye will likely have to settle for a third-stringer role for the team at best. Still, the lanky forward is looking forward to a new opportunity with a team that he chose to be with for the first time in his career. Here is what he had to say on twitter:
Excited about joining the Raptors organization.! Ready to get to work and take advantage of this new opportunity
