Hello and welcome to the Sheridan Hoops blog, where we round up the latest news and rumors from all around the NBA. This week, you are once again looking at my face (complete with that mustache I rocked for exactly one month) at the top of the column, after a one-week absence from the weekend blog slot. A few weeks ago, I mentioned that Dwight Howard and Chandler Parsons were texting each other frequently. I remember this because it was in

Tweet of the Day: Steve Novak seems thrilled about new opportunity
After years of frustration from Canadian basketball fans, the Toronto Raptors finally pulled the trigger on a trade that would free them from their once beloved big-man Andrea Bargnani. In a package from the Knicks, sharpshooter Steve Novak landed in Canada and was clearly excited for the opportunity to be a Raptor. When the trade was made official on July 10, Novak took to Twitter days later. He quickly updated his Twitter settings, including an updated display picture, bio, location and header. First
Hubbard: Jason Kidd Still Seeing The Whole Court
After a practice at the Team USA training camp in Las Vegas before the 2008 Olympics, Jason Kidd sat in the first row of the bleachers and talked about Chris Paul and Deron Williams, who were sitting on the opposite side of the court. At age 35, Kidd knew he would get limited playing time in the Olympics because of Paul (23 at the time) and Williams (24), who were extraordinarily talented although each still had much to learn. Kidd played the
Tweet of the Night: C.J. Watson says he will make Chris Sheridan eat his words
Writers and analysts of the NBA frequently appear as guests on a variety of podcasts to analyze many different aspects of the game of basketball. The objective is to break down the situations of particular teams around the league, and that usually means the discussion of specific players. Depending on who that player is, one of two things happen: said player is praised or criticized. Chris Sheridan, the Editor-in-Chief of the site you are reading right now (and no, he is not

As World Peace told ESPN Los Angeles’ Dave McMenamin, he does not plan on playing in the NBA next season after being released via the amnesty clause by the Lakers. “I don’t really want to play for anybody,” World Peace said. “I don’t want to go anywhere. I want to go to China, or coach or play Arena Football.” Should anybody believe Metta? [Read more…]
Tweet of the Day: Kelly Olynyk
Boston Celtics rookie big man from Gonzaga, Kelly Olynyk, may not have been turning heads in the Orlando Summer League with amazing athleticism, but he left his mark and certainly made an impression with his offensive skill. Not including Friday’s game, Olynyk had proven himself to be an effective scorer, averaging 19.5 points on 57-percent shooting to go along with eight rebounds and just over two steals in 26.5 minutes per contest. That comes from a sample size of four Summer
Mighty Moke’s Top 25 Remaining Free Agents — July 12 Update
Monta Ellis Heads to Dallas After firing his agent, Monta Ellis has finally found a new home. On Friday, Marc Stein of ESPN.com reported that Ellis and the Dallas Mavericks had agreed to terms on a three-year deal that would pay Ellis between $25 million and $30 million. The fine print is still being worked out, but Ellis is off of the market. And the same can be said of Nikola Pekovic, though he is still yet to sign
Sheridan: Defending Dwight Howard’s Decision (PODCAST)
It seems there are more Dwight Howard haters out there this summer than there were three years ago when there were so many millions of LeBron James haters. Maybe that’s just because so much of the venom is coming from Los Angeles, where the fans are spoiled because no one ever leaves the Lakers. Players always want to join the Lakers. My opinion? STFU, haters. Dwight Howard is an American, and all Americans have a right to choose where they want to work.
