Sixers negotiating contract with Brett Brown
Yahoo! Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski reports that the Philadelphia 76ers are in contract negotiations with Spurs assistant coach Brett Brown.
Sources say that Brown has been offered the job already. Still, Brown and the 76ers are negotiating the length and compensation of the contract.
Brown has been serving as an assistant coach for Gregg Popovich in San Antonio for the past seven seasons. With Popovich’s former right hand man, Mike Budenholzer, leaving for Atlanta, many believed Brown would become the Spurs’ coach-in-waiting.
Brown coached the Australian national team to a strong showing in the 2012 Olympics and has extensive head coaching experience from his days of coaching professionally in Australia.
Sixers GM Sam Hinkie had interviewed four finalists for the position earlier this week in New York. In the end, Brown’s track record and association to Popovich were too good to pass up.
For Brown, the transition from contending with the Spurs to tanking with the 76ers will assuredly take some getting used to.
