The state of the National Basketball Players’ Association, as some—like Miami Heat star LeBron James—see it, is in disarray and in need of new leadership. Others, like Jerry Stackhouse—who serves as first vice-president on the executive committee, believe that the committee is making strides to correct things from within.
Nevertheless, the end of Derek Fisher’s tenure as union president leaves the committee in need of a new leader.
Until only days ago, King James was considering making a run at the union throne. He has officially bowed out, however a new candidate has stepped forward.
Need to continue moving @theNBPA forward! Officially running for President!

Roger Mason, Jr. is presently a free agent without a team. However, the 10-year NBA veteran has served as a vice president on the NBPA executive committee, seeing the union through its recent string of issues—most of which revolve around former union executive director Billy Hunter.
Hunter was fired by the union’s board of player representatives by a unanimous 24-0 vote in mid-February after a nine-month long investigation revealed that he had questionable hiring practices—being guilty of nepotism. He also was found to have violated a handful of other union rules of conduct and bylaws.
Now that the first candidate for union president has surfaced for next week’s vote in Las Vegas. While the prevailing question seems to be, “Who else will run?”
Still, one must wonder how long it will be before the players find a new executive director.
