- As previously mentioned, LeBron James has been, as of late, considering himself above the mere mortals of this planet: “Did you hear the latest? This past weekend King James was going to see his buddy Jay Z at a rap concert, and he got stuck in horrible traffic. Even Kings struggle like the rest of us, right? Puhleeeeze. LeBron made a call, and within minutes this millionaire superstar had cop cars clearing traffic, and his chauffeur was speeding down the wrong side of the road. Headed the wrong direction, on the other side of the road, all the little people staring as he glided past. Funny, isn’t it? Sometimes we write the metaphors, sometimes life writes ’em for us. These are the times we live in, I guess. As LeBron narrates video of the incident on his Instagram account: “Light police escort on the wrong side of the street. Headed to the big homey [Jay Z] concert, JT. Holla.””
- Along with Hibbert, one of those Hall of Famers that can be found preparing for another run at a title is Manu Ginobili: “Ginobili went on to point out that it only took two or three days of “grieving” following San Antonio’s Game 7 loss to the Miami Heat before deciding that he was going to come back for another season, and sign a free agent deal with the Spurs. This may seem like a quick turnaround, especially considering the nearly eight-month run of 103 regular and postseason San Antonio Spurs games that preceded that decision. The turnaround had to be quick, though, because San Antonio’s postseason run ended on June 20, and the free agent period sparked up just a week and a half later. Ginobili couldn’t dawdle, which is tough stuff for a guy that has been with the team for 11 years as an active player, 14 years after being drafted by the club, as he prepared to sign what will probably be his last contract with the team.”
- The Cleveland Cavaliers have inked No. 1 overall pick Anthony Bennett to a contract: “Financial terms were not immediately known, but the deal can be worth up to $22.8 million over four years. Bennett was somewhat of a surprising selection by the Cavaliers, who believe the 6-foot-8, 240-pounder from UNLV can play power forward. He’s recovering from shoulder surgery, but the Toronto native is expected to be ready for the start of training camp. He averaged 16.1 points and 8.1 rebounds as a freshman with the Runnin’ Rebels. The Cavs also said they have finalized their deals with first-round pick Sergey Karasev, a guard from Russia, and second-round selection Carrick Felix from Arizona State. Karasev helped lead Russia to the gold medal in the World University Game this summer.”
- The Milwaukee Bucks have completed a contract extension with Larry Sanders: “The Milwaukee Bucks signed center Larry Sanders to a contract extension on Tuesday. The team did not disclose terms of the contract, but league sources told ESPN’s Chris Broussard that Sanders signed a four-year deal worth $44 million. Sanders, 24, enjoyed a breakthrough 2012-13 season, averaging 9.8 points and 9.5 rebounds in 71 games. He also averaged 2.8 blocks, the second-best mark in the NBA. The 6-foot-11 Sanders will be an important player next season for the rebuilding Bucks, who lost leading scorers Monta Ellis and Brandon Jennings this offseason.”
